Poking more at the STM32MP2.
I have CPU2 (the M33) booting from flash, reading a bunch of fuse registers and printing them, doing all the hardware init, etc.
I'm gonna call that reasonably brought up. My current flasher hard codes a few addresses but it's good enough to get the job done while I am tinkering before I make a more permanent solution.
I think I'm ready to start looking into bringing up the A35 next.
I had this little avatar from years ago, originally borrowed from a series of Flash animations called "Ninjai - the little ninja".
It was way to small to be used for an avatar in its current size, so I asked Gemini to upscale it and give it a little more texture.
Mind blown!

You know what I love in the morning, before getting any sort of breakfast, getting K dressed & fed, or really anything?
A good solid hot flash and sneezing fit, capped by a half-dozen dry heaves.
It makes me special. My doctor and her shadow med student are mystified when I described these incidents.
Love the ambiguous acronyms *within a domain*:
- FIT may mean Firmware Interface Table or Flash Image Tool
- FPT may mean Flash Partition Table or Flash Programming Tool
Edit: All of those are terms from the wonderful world of Intel firmware.
STM32MP2 bringup progress: I have a "FSBL" (really my whole firmware) image booting from QSPI flash, doing some very low level init, then hanging before it starts the UART.
But it's able to open up debug access without needing ST's wrapper. I hard code a few pointers for SFRs that I don't have structs for but it's enough that I can get gdb attached and the code isn't TOO ugly.
Now I need to figure out why Timer::Sleep() is being derpy in BSP_InitUART…

STM32MP2 update: created what I think is a valid boot image, set straps to boot in M33-first mode from flash, reset the board, and it's not coming up.
So now I get to try to figure out why.

A clean peak on the evening of 13 December UTC in the #Geminids this year: the meteoroids flux per volume and time plotted vs. time from global video data, in https://globalmeteornetwork.org/flux/plots/flux_GEM_sol=256.00-266.00_year_2025_full.png from https://globalmeteornetwork.org/flux/ - the peak came right at the expected time and is matching the global radio echo data https://www5f.biglobe.ne.jp/~hro/Flash/2025/GEM/
I'm hopeful that the current RAM crisis will end up tanking demand for other hardware to the extent that I'll be able to pick up a future Zen6 chip and AM5 board (or at least a 5950X) for less than they'd otherwise go for. Let's arbitrage this shit to our advantage! (I will shortly have a recurring CPU-bound task that will benefit greatly from doubling my core count or other improvements, and I do have 2x16GB DDR5 SoDIMMs that I could press into service with an adapter in a n…

Continuing work on the PIC12F683 video. Ripped out all of the early rambling guesswork floorplan analysis I did on the top metal and replaced it with a much more in-depth floorplan discussion looking at the substrate-level floorplan.

The global market for memory chips, particularly DRAM and NAND Flash, is experiencing significant price increases, primarily attributed to the explosive demand from operators of AI, who are buying up these essential components in enormous quantities.

Chasing some other interesting bugs in the STM32MP2 setup.
1) I don't know if the clock dividers were the problem or not, but I'm seeing weird behavior with the QSPI flash randomly not working properly sometimes.
2) Possibly related: power consumption of the board seems to vary /- 20% from one reset to another. This is an enormous variation, no I do not currently have an explanation.
Is anyone are of good tools for "the attacker knows the key but not the system" cryptanalysis?
I'm thinking scenarios like "I've dumped external flash and efuses off a target with encrypted firmware, but I don't know the algorithm or image format".
So ciphertext and key are believed to be known, but bit ordering, endianness, algorithm, headers, etc are unknown.
I finally decided the series-or-single-video question for the PIC12F683 project.
It's getting *way* too long, so I'm going to make it a series. There will be a bunch of components and I'm going to try and release the segments I've already filmed and edited in the next day or two as soon as I get intros and conclusions made for each.
Then move on to circuit analysis of the flash and EEPROM.
Filmed and edited another segment of the PIC video (intro to reading standard cell planar CMOS with whiteboard examples plus deconstructing actual photos of an inverter, NAND2, and GDCAP), now an hour 38 minutes.
Still need to do circuit analysis of the SRAM, flash/EEPROM, config fuses, whatever else I might want to dig into, and add some conclusions.
