In 2011, I posted to our forums to explain "Why not Windows?" Our goal is not to make the most money; it's to make the best software that we can make. There are other successful platforms, but I don' t think our software would be better on any of them.
Since 2011 we've moved to different forums and the hardware hosting our archived forums died. Maybe someday I'll revive it from backups, but in the meantime it's nice that the Internet Archive still has a co…

At the Omni Group, our goal is not to make as much money as we can; our goal is to make the best software that we can make. To do that, we've chosen to focus our attention on the development platform which we feel makes us the most productive.

Are there other successful platforms out there? Certainly! Could we make more money by bringing our software to those platforms? Maybe. But I don't think that software would be any better than what we've already made, and it would distract us from imp…

Today, Maker Forums Discourse came under fairly heavy spam attack. It took me almost two hours to clean up and shore up our defenses a bit against the next wave.
This attack came from IPs all over the globe, not just from a few poorly-administered ASNs in the developing world as has sometimes happened in the past. One account name made it clear that this was a Fiverr job. 😭

Forum member: "I can but I won't", and four other members congratulate this person for his bad manners. What the fuck?

Having been a long time supporter of the Affinity suite I was troubled when they sold out to Canva in March 2024. But nothing changed and I was still able to create the things I do. Then I had an email from them about big changes coming. Nothing is in the App store and the Affinity forums are shut.
I am terrified it might be pure enshitification.

Not interested in continuing a debate here. This is mainly for followers, some of whom I know are interested in the products and may want to know about this if they've not heard yet.
The Frame.work community forums, and to some extent other places (e.g., here, and on reddit apparently) are awash in some controversy.
It began when someone questioned the company's explicit support for certain projects, and as suggested, the implicit association of a specific individual inv…

Sometimes I look at Mastodon and just feel tired. Not because it’s bad, but because I’ve been stuck in it too long. It’s not the site that’s the problem, it’s me getting caught up in it and forgetting to step away.

Very interesting article here. After a school attack, pundits speculate about why the person was motivated to attack where they did. The usual guesses involve mental illness and psychotropic meds.
What if there was something else going on?

There is a well known bug with Wayland & SDDM on FreeBSD KDE: Ctrl C by keypress abruptly throws you out of your Wayland session. Two things to add to that:
First: KDE and FreeBSD devs are actively looking for FreeBSD help in this, bcs the regular systemd type of logs are obviously not available here for bug tracing. If you can help, please do!
Second: Found a great solutions in the FreeBSD forums. It's a bit hidden in the threads so for clarity's sake:
