In Eckernförde (Schleswig-Holstein) werden ausgediente Weihnachtsbäume nicht geschreddert oder verbrannt, sondern kommen dem Küstenschutz zu Gute. Die Tannenzweige werden am Strand in sogenannte Faschinen eingearbeitet. Mit ihrer Hilfe können Schnee und Sand von der Promenade ferngehalten werden.
