I don’t want to embarrass him - but as an example of Christmas cheer and the awesome powers/generosity of Mastodon’s people - @… told me he’d been exploring other gear / areas of music as of late, and so his ‘3rd Wave’ wasn’t getting much use (despite being a deeply amazing synth.) So, would I like to make use it for a period?
The machine is already eve…

We were grocery shopping this morning and when got in the checkout line an old geezer (at least as old as us anyway) sidled up and asked if we’d mind if he payed for our groceries. We said we appreciated his offer, but that there were very likely other people who’d be better targets of his generosity. Another old woman was behind us so we suggested maybe she’d take him up on his offer. She did. He does this every day for a couple weeks this time of year. Just buying 1 person’s food.

Appreciate the WSJ essay from Lauren Powell Jobs on Philanthropy/Giving wsj.com/us-news/laurene-powell

Headline from WSJ Article: Laurene Powell Jobs: Beware of Philanthropists Who Want Control in Exchange for Their Giving
True generosity flows quietly to communities that already know what they need, building capacity not dependency.

«Kovid betrayed us with Calibre 8.16.2, and we as a community never should have let that happen, never have placed such a burden on individual generosity. The synthesis of these two truths, then, is nearly self-evident. There must be a new effort, free from AI encumbrances, that is built from the ground-up as a community effort. Something that can outlive the decisions of any one participant»
Glad to see more efforts on community-based FOSS governance!

from a chat log - "Dearest and most illustrious father — beacon of patience, master of wisdom, vanquisher of broken appliances, and undisputed champion of perfectly timed dad humor — your brilliance illuminates even the dimmest Monday. And so, in honor of your greatness, generosity, and the eternal bond between family and flavor… might we get ramen for dinner tonight? "
