The thing about arrest quotas is that the important arrests
— folks committing or organizing crimes
— don't tell you where they are.
So if you want to hit your numbers, you need lots of basically law-abiding people you can punish.

The #UniversityOfGeorgia fall semester started yesterday (yes, we know, it's VERY early), and that means it's time to swap out the works on view in our study gallery. This fall, we're working with professors in art history, history (museum studies) and women's studies to pull works from the collection that their classes can use all semester long: Goya, Ronnie Goodman, a 19t…

Uspol, genocide
In case you're wondering whether "political violence" is escalating in the U.S.A. right now, of *course* it is as we move into an era of concentration campus and domestic military deployments. But both domestic genocides and purges as well as political violence targeted at individual prominent figures has been a *constant* throughout American history, from gun duels fought between political rivals to massacres of Native Americans in order to steal their land, to pogroms against Catholics, to literal wars on local Black success and political participation, all dating back before the American Revolution to the beginning of colonization. Thanks to Wikipedia, here's a *small sampling* where I attempted to whittle things down to about one event per decade before recent times.

At least 475 workers detained in major Ice raid at US Hyundai factory
South Korea alarmed after hundreds of nationals arrested at Georgia work site making batteries for Hyundai and Kia cars
Since St George was born in Turkey, died in Palestine and never set foot on Britain I find all of his flags going up around the UK a bit strange but am fine with it really. A nice international symbol of unity with all the other countries with him as their patron saint (Aragon, Catalonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, Germany, Greece, Moscow, Istanbul, Genoa and Venice).

For all of its efforts to drive a domestic manufacturing boom in key industries,
the United States remains heavily reliant on Asian expertise to build batteries -- the powerful technologies that underpin drones, electric vehicles, and much more.
It’s a reality that was laid bare last week when U.S. immigration officials raided an EV battery plant construction site in Georgia
and detained around 475 workers,
most of whom were South Korean nationals.
