Signs we made for #NoKings protest in #Pasadena. Lots of people showed up and the signs turned out pretty good! Photos by @…

Protest sign saying “SERVING NO KINGS SINCE 1776” with the words between two buns, thanks to buns.life
Protest sign that looks like a No Parking sign but with the PAR scratched out, resulting in NO KING ANY TIME
Protest sign with the phrase I HAVE FRIENDS EVERYWHERE and a tiny US flag crudely drawn in the corner

Is now a bad time to point out Canada already has a king, I've met him, he's a nice fellow as is his brother I dined with. Thing is, like most kings, he has absolutely no power whatsoever, the Commons write his speeches. It's a very good system, a living fairy tale.
In the seventies I lobbied to have PET declared king for the same reason, to get him out of politics.

This piece was written by a UK blogger, Carolyn Gallaher is an excellent read.
It was written back in February about the pardons of all the J6 criminals and others associated with the militia movement.
“Trump’s pardons suggest he will run a far-right government with paramilitary backing.”

Not that America should hold us up as a role model, of course.
England turned 250 in the second half of the 12th century (depending on how you define "England" as a country), when kings and barons were romping around slaughtering each other and the population with gay abandon.
Great Britain turned 250 in 1957, at which point we'd only just finally got past post-WW2 rationing and still possibly clung on to some delusions of being an Empire.
And the UK has another 26 years to go before we get to have a 250th birthday. Maybe we'll be doing good by then (but probably not).

I just finished Ken Liu's The Grace of Kings. It was good, but not great. It was too long, for one thing. The book also grows increasingly cynical as it goes on - something I could've done without. Still, it was full of interesting ideas and engaging characters.
If you want great, though, read Liu's first collection of short stories, The Paper Menagerie - it's absolutely brilliant.

I feel weird saying “Happy July 4” to my American friends, because I don’t think many Americans are very happy with where the country is headed. Independence Day? From what? Tyrannical Kings? Colonial masters?
Seems #theAmericanFascist is headed back there as quickly as he can.
You gotta fight it, friends. You have to stop what you are doing today and really think about how to force Trump and his backers to reverse course now, hopefully peacefully, but maybe not.
So Happy Independence Day to my good hearted American friends. I know you are there, from both parties.
I wish for you the strength to stand up for that Independence and Freedom for all within your borders so you can again become a beacon. Remember that you have friends in the world willing to help, but the first step has to be yours.
