U.S. District Judge Sara Ellis on Oct. 9 ordered “visible identification” that is “prominently displayed.”
But dozens of photographs of uniformed immigration agents shot by Chicago Sun-Times photojournalists in four separate locations since the court order show how the feds have fallen short.
The 80-plus photos show that not all officers are displaying a visible identification code that mixes numbers and letters during some of the most contentious recent immigration actions that…

The past couple of weeks have shown just how far even Trump has moved to block immigration
and to demonize immigrants in his second term,
erasing the lines around people who traditionally have been seen as special cases.
First, a 19-year-old college student who tried to fly home to surprise her family on Thanksgiving
was shackled by immigration agents and deported,
despite a court order saying she should not be removed from the United States.
And on Friday…

“The leading reason for police use of force is lack of compliance,” that department member said. “I’m a law enforcement officer. I’ve had people defy things I’ve needed done and had to get physical.”

Another officer said the main role for a local police force is to “protect life and property and keep the peace,” so that would include protecting federal immigration enforcement agents if they’re in a bind on the streets.
But where it gets muddled, he said, is during protests, when citizens protesting against ICE and Border Patrol personnel see Chicago police officers protecting the federal officers. He said a normal citizen might think, albeit erroneously in his view, that Chicago police’s efforts in that situation are helping the federal officers with immigration enforcement when they aren’t.

1. Kavanaugh wrote the opinion that explicitly legalized racial profiling in immigration enforcement.

Donald Trump’s hateful, falsehood-filled rant on Thursday
