Brauchen also Geld für zwei, drei neue Festplatten.

Friendly reminder to put some money toward preservation of our digital heritage.
Non-US peeps: The USD is cheap right now :) You might consider that when choosing your amount.

At the moment I often have to think of Eley's book, that it was not the bourgeoisie that realized what is currently held up as abstract principles, but a left that had to organize itself against the impositions of capitalist society.

I recently bought a fan. You know, because it's hot.
I really wanted something decent, so I spent 3 hours researching the market, tracking down whitelabel products and their resellers, checking brand websites and "data sheets". I queried trade registers to find out from where and for how long they have been operating and which brands belong to them. I also used the internet archive to trace supplier changes over time.
This is completely normal, right?

"The Hague Declaration on Knowledge Discovery in the Digital Age" was published around 10 years ago. Very interesting, how things have changed since then. TDM for research is still in its infancy, and reuse in the context of #ai has caused a backlash against most of the 6 principles of the Declaration. Tellingly, the Declaration is only accessible via the internet archive:
