P.S.
The answer might be a social network, that is, recommendation letters, personal contacts, meeting people, being invited to talks, being introduced.

This is also the reason why a lack of emojis from a personal chat message may trigger questions like “what have I done?!”, because it could signal that the friendly relationship is disturbed.
