Hazzah! Just upgraded the final Drupal 9 site (to Drupal 10) for which I'm responsible... *Big* load off my mind. Lots of technical debt paid... Just hoping there aren't too many subtle gotchas not immediately apparent with such complex systems.
Today I'm finding myself in the awkward position of being resentful that 99% of human society is founded on what I'm quite sure are fundamental lies and general delusion.
I struggle to see how we can rebuild something durable on that murky foundation. Because that's where I see us now.
After driving our EV (& 32 yo manual ICE car) for the past 6months, here's some unsolicited advice to auto mechanics: if you're not already actively train(ed|ing) to work on EVs & auto electronics, down tools & run - don't walk - to enroll in a course. The market for EV mechanics is burgeoning somethin' crazy & that for ICEs is contracting. You can be in the right place at the right time.
Amazing seeing the aurora outside tonight! Lots of others have taken better pictures than I could...

Yeah. Diesel drivers feeling aggrieved about motoring representatives pointing out that new RUCs disproportionately affect EV drivers based on impact (on roads & environment in general). Yes, both sorts of vehicles have mining & manufacturing cost (about equal) but diesel & petrol drivers forget the evidence shows the fuel supply line they depend on - getting it to them & them burning it in situ - exacts a far greater cost on the world than EVs, per kilometer.

Damn. My OnePlus 6T (runningLineageOS 20) has started occasionally spontaneously rebooting and then taking *ages* to finish the boot process. I daren't wonder too hard about what it's actually doing... but this isn't ideal as I prep for some international travel. Sigh. Might have to prioritise my repair (cracked screen and bung battery) of my son's now superseded OP 3T for which I have already procured replacement parts (aliexpress, of course)... Will report on progress.
So, somehow I've ended up on the mailing list for the Biden-Harris campaign. Wow. So shrill and, well, desperate. Undignified. I will probably vote for Biden to keep Trump from being elected, but the fact is that there are only two viable - but objectively corrupt (to corporate/lobbing interests), morally bankrupt, and entirely uninspiring - candidates for POTUS is gut wrenching. 1/2

Right - successfully upgraded my second 'non-trivial' Drupal 9 site to Drupal 10 in as many days. It's not straightforward, but few worthwhile things are. And paying off technical debt is worthwhile.

It occurs to me that now would be a great time to start a new tech services consultancy. Such a wealth of skilled & experienced (and principled) technologists looking for new roles.
Seems to me that the only likely purpose of the gov't's cuts to the public service is to soften them up for 'PPP's (Public Private Partnerships) with the eventual aim of making all public property privately owned (by the very few very wealthy people who funded all 3 parties' campaigns).
They are privatising commonly owned public resources, so 99% of us can be precarious sharecroppers in our own country.

Went out for a walk last evening around dusk in my parents' neighbourhood in Pennsylvania... lots of big houses, lots of US flags, lots of big pickups/SUVs. Only saw one TV on in a house as I walked past... but it was playing Tucker Carlson. This is bible thumpin' Trump country. How can people here really be so disaffected, credulous, & ignorant?
