I've been in my career long enough that there are some things that I used to be exceptional at that I literally have no idea about now. It will never not be hilarious to me how long it takes me to debug any LAMP stack problem now - but I once taught some of the people who lead and maintain these things today.
(Cloudflare rules were obscuring a problem that Wordpress hid the error message of and tl;dr Apache uses an older version of PHP which was missing the XML extension. Got there eventually!)

Hi, Anna! Welcome to Mastodon! May your days get better and better.
"Programming sucks. Code sucks. It's hard to read, hard to test, and hard to maintain. Only a handful of people can understand any particular software project."
I agree. I was lucky to do a lot of my programming alone, and in small teams. That helped a lot. I co…

Probably that everyone has its own setup but when I read this I’m like, really?, all of this just to operate claude ? is there such thing as “claude burnout” ?
if not it should be patented because all these plugins are making it harder to use, maintain, memorise, its like a server overload

Speaking as a retired chemist, this is absolutely essential to help maintain California's strength in science and engineering.
On the other hand , the most valuable parts of my education (as opposed to training) came from the humanities. Yet we don't seem to recognize how important and central that non-STEM segment is. Why not?

Following federal cuts to history-focused organizations, the president of the Canadian Historical Association, Colin Coates, sent this letter to Marc Miller, the Minister of Canadian Identity and Culture.
One thing might not be obvious: Coates's reference to Carney's recent Quebec City speech suggests Canadians' need for historical context right now. He doesn't agree with Carney's claims. In fact, most Canadian historians would dispute them.

Letter:

Dear Minister Miller,
I am writing to you in my capacity as president of the Canadian Historical Association | Société historique du Canada. The members of our association have been distressed to see the recent news about cutbacks in a number of federal government units that are very important to all Canadians who are interested in the history of our country: Library and Archives Canada, the Canadian Museum of History and the Canadian War Museum, Parks Canada, and Statistics Canad…
Letter:

While we cannot expect the federal government to address problems at the provincial level, in your role as Minister of Canadian Heritage, we hope that we can count on you to advocate on behalf of all Canadians to maintain and enhance the role of agencies that collect data and records and make them accessible to broad publics. We recognise that the country faces many current challenges, but we do not want short-sighted decisions to have long-lasting effects on the future study of the co…

I used my fork of kwin_wayland all evening yesterday, and it was fine. I swear they're making the Wayland session bad on purpose just to suffer performatively. Whatever, I can maintain a patchset.

ARTIX: Where could it have come from?
LEYLAN: I've never seen a ship like that before in my life. She seems to be drifting, Mr. Raiker. Maintain this distance.
RAIKER: Right, sir.

We're going to see a rise in US Aspirin sales aren't we? Never mind the man is likely saying this just to cover up other medical issues, or just as likely to maintain his image.🥺
