arianvp@functional.cafe - Google Maps also stopped showing connections that involve walks longer than 500 meters.   It'll just be like "no its impossible to reach the other end of Berlin in half an hour by public transport. You need to change 6 times". Because it refuses to let me cross a bridge to another busstation because US brained people dont believe in legs.

Congratulations to YDS Professor Volker Leppin, who is receiving an honorary degree from United Lutheran Seminary on May 23! Hard to imagine a more worthy recipient given his biography of Martin Luther ("Martin Luther: A Late Medieval Life") and his essays on Luther and mysticism, not to mention the fact he is a pastor in the ELCA.

Medieval portrait of King Wenceslaus IV, riding into battle. His helmet looks like a bra.

The islanders were taking part in an annual masked celebration called
Mid-Lent, or “Mi-Carême” in French,
visiting houses, bars and community centers with the goal of not being recognized.
A tradition rooted in medieval France,
it survives today in a handful of French-speaking corners of Canada.
They include a few small islands in the middle of the St. Lawrence River, like L’Isle-aux-Coudres in Quebec, which is accessible from the mainland only by ferry.

Earwigs are among those animals that suffer from a kind of reputational inertia: once an idea lodges itself in cultural memory, it is hard to dislodge, even when it is wrong. The name carries a superstition - the medieval belief that these insects crawl into human ears. There is no evidence for this, and never has been. Earwigs are no more interested in ears than they are in theology or municipal planning.
Biologically, earwigs belong to the order Dermaptera, a name derived from Greek …

The setting appears to be an elegant interior with decorative ironwork visible in the background, suggesting a castle or manor house. Th…
