Amazed how often this meme applies, right down to the wording.

Redacted rando responding to a Bluesky post:
“Bluesky uses AI, too, yet here you are.” It has 21 replies and 1 like.
l30n4.bsky.social replies with the meme of a medieval man carrying a bundle of sticks and saying, “We should improve society somewhat,” as a modern white guy climbs out of a well and says, “yet you participate in society, curious! I am very intelligent.” It has 2 replies, 1 repost, and 547 likes (including mine).

grotesque corbel bloke got in my shot again for #windowFriday
#Fensterfreitag

leaded church window in background. in foreground a carved gurning head on a corbel bearing an arch at the east end of the north isle in a medieval church. he has my torch beam under his chin. maybe he has a story for #spookySaturday. unfortunately he looks like he has lost the power of speech.

My teenage son has been taking classes to learn how to fight... medieval style. He's been attending classes at a local #HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts) Academy. Its pretty cool and so much more involved than the LARPing I was doing as a kid.
And maybe its just our local club, but most the kids are visually queer. Lots of rainbows, pronouns, even a furry. While its great to see these kids find a safe place, its also good to know that the next generation can defend us from the barbarian horde (aka MAGA).
Anyone else here into historically accurate fighting?

The Date of #Eilmer of Malmesbury’s Flight: academic.oup.com/nq/advance-ar (about a guy allegedly doing gliding flight experiments - and observing Halley's comet - a millennium ago) -> Did a medieval flying monk spot Halley’s comet, twice? It’s complicated: arstechnica.com/science/2026/0 - yeah, right, because the sources are ... tenuous at best.

During our vacations recently we did se QUITE some castles and I learned a bit about history. Sometimes just details about certain places, sometimes about families - like here at #Greifenstein castle. The family of the famous Stauffenberg still has a place of living here.

Big "Refugees welcome" demonstration in Utrecht, just now. A counterweight to the 'spontaneous local' violent protests against asylum seekers organised by the extreme right, and used by their politicians to claim that 'the people' are against taking up refugees.

Giving a brief introduction into the #TEI tomorrow for a mostly non-DH audience. Bracing myself for the “but I’m not a computer scientist” demur. Prepared my ultimate reply: “Michael Sperberg-McQueen co-authored #XML and he had a PhD in Medieval German literature” 🧐

So...what's new? Longer legs?
Magnum Chaos design, as shown in a 16th-century design in the church of Santa Maria Maggiore in Bergamo, Italy
#Religion #Chaos #Philosophy

Magnum Chaos design from a late Medieval church decoration. The design shows a violently flaming golden sun, with concentric circles within--behind an imaginary creature with an eye in its center, forearms and hands spread wide, and ankles and feet. The creature appears to emanate from the sun and concentric circles.

The Bayeux Tapestry has arrived in Britain for the first time in nearly 1,000 years following a secret journey from France.
The priceless 70-metre-long medieval artwork depicting the Norman conquest of England
was discreetly delivered to the British Museum in London in a high-security operation overnight on Friday.
Crafted from wool thread stitched onto linen, the tapestry accurately depicts the intertwined – sometimes bloody – histories of Britain and France, and is symboli…
