This has allowed me to make clear something that's been at the back of my mind. Something that is at the heart of so much blind stupidity in big tech.
It's the assumption that we will change one thing and all else will be the same.
In this case, we will fire lots and lots of employees all over the world and we will make lots of profit. We're smart enough to make the AI, and we're dumb enough to think that there will only be one consequence. 1/n

It is hard to convey the breadth and depth of determination among normally comfortable privileged white people around here.
People are outraged, spooked, heartbroken, scared, confused, in shock, utterly livid, all that — but there’s something else. I’ve •never• seen so many people organize like this. I’ve never seen the general population so willing to •act•, to show up, to make emergency plans, to just step into a crisis situation and shout down people with assault rifles. It’s wild.

I said 'no' to something! And I did it quick, which ought to help the organizers find someone else.

After today's capitulation by the D-party Fox News is forecasting a total sweep by the R-party in November 2026.
Given that the D-party can't organize themselves out of a wet paper bag, and then sinks their own boat by elevating identity politics over pretty much everything else, I can see the logic in such a move by Fox News.
(And, no, Fox News did not really predict that total sweep.)

Quick, what do you tell a coworker who is about to be laid off? (like literally has a meeting w/ HR in 10 minutes and they've been laying off ppl all morning).
Happy trails? Bon voyage? Light the place on fire? I want to be supportive here.
edit: the coworker is a part-time contractor HERE but they're getting laid off from their more full time position somewhere else.
