Birthday Morning, Mountain Spring (Early May 2026)
#SilentSunday #LandscapePhotography #Photography

Wide-format photo of an alpine landscape in early spring. Unlike the other mountain slopes, the meadow in the foreground is already snow free and showing signs of first green grass growing. Further in the back, layers of both smooth and craggy ridges, still semi-covered in patches of snow. Overcast hazy sky.

Oh dear, this is all a bit naive, even if the thesis of power (slowly )ebbing away from the USA and the resurgence of China is incontestable.
E.g.
"With major oil and gas producers now led by ever more erratic and menacing authoritarian leaders, other countries are looking for alternative ways to generate power. Electric cars, for example, have never been more in demand."
Electric powers generate power, eh.

Stuibenfall, Tyrol's largest waterfall (October 2025)
A major landslide on the opposite side of the main Ötztal valley around 7000 years ago created a new 300-400 meter tall hill on this side, acting as a dam and causing a large lake to form in the higher up side valley. The water from that lake then slowly carved its way through the rocks, draining the lake and forming this amazing waterfall. The boundary of that ancient lake is still visible on the satellite view...

Two small new prints from this afternoon, this time not Kallitype but contact printing on silver chloride FB paper, developed with Adox MCC. The increase in depth and detail is just wonderful and the feel of the final results an instant throwback to my early darkroom adventures ~40 years ago... 😍
The pictures are of two of my favorite places in recent years. Larger prints will be available for purchase in September.

Phone capture of two small B&W prints with black border, depicting beautiful alpine mountain landscapes.

The top image shows a path in a high alpine valley leading into the distance past a small lake, surrounded by steep rock faces. Moody dark clouds forming.

The bottom image shows a large boulder within a group of swiss pines (also growing on top) in a talus field. Further in the distance the glaciated peaks of the Bernina range in bright sunshine.

The Mountains Flowed Before Him (2026)
(Given a large enough time scale, these mountains would be almost like waves...)
#SilentSunday #LandscapePhotography #NaturePhotography

B&W photo of a high alpine landscape with intense folds and strata in the rocks. Small meadows and groups of Swiss pine trees on the more shallow sections, basking in the sun. A large cumulus cloud is creating an almost plain background.

#MountainMonday #MonochromeMonday #LandscapePhotography

B&W photo of a grand high alpine mountain landscape. A small road leading through grassy terrain in the foreground to a hut in a bend, after which the road is disappearing from view. Dark steep slopes with talus fields leading up to the large massif behind. Large & bare pyramidal rock faces higher up and layers of other peaks in the back. Semi-cloudy sky.

Postglacial farming (2025)
(The last farm lands before the valley turns into a canyon and glacial landscape further up...)
#MountainMonday #MonochromeMonday #LandscapePhotography

Wide-format B&W photo of an alpine valley leading in the distance toward mountains with glaciated peaks (part of the central ridge of the Alps). A creek (glacial outflow) meandering through its rocky bed, surrounded by pastures and steep slopes on the left, dense forest on the right. Two old wooden farm sheds and a small greenhouse in the foreground.

An example of Trump's war and its volatile impact on photography/darkroom processing: Silver nitrate unavailable (for 2 months already) at my usual suppliers and only available with 30% price hikes (compared to mid January) at other places, even though the price of silver itself has halved since beginning of the year... Thanks very much!

Simulated opinion polls to drive public policy — what could possibly go wrong!
In the name of saving costs and producing more polls (i.e. the double benefit of increased efficiency AND productivity), statistical truth (traditional polls) is being replaced with its derivative, producing statistical insights via a second layer of statistics and agents simulating known, pretrained demographic behaviors & preferences, instead of interviewing actual people. Yay!
It seems they're …

What Lies Beneath (2025)
As much as it hurts to witness glaciers disappearing more every year, the colors, textures and exposed geological features are some of the things I absolutely cherish each time I find myself in their vicinity...
These are truly unique landscapes to meditate on the age, scale & forces which have been shaping this planet, the environments they've created, directly and indirectly, the fragility of life trying to thrive in them, even if only temporarily, …

View of a high alpine post-glacial landscape with the bottom half entirely consisting of an exposed, colorful section of bedrock (grays, purples, dark reds), sharply delineated from the surrounding landscape, smoothed by abrasion of the former glacier here and indicating its previous vertical extent. Above that large bare rock face are alpine meadows and tundra vegetation in beautiful autumn colors. Clear bright sky.

(To me, one of the most stunning and interesting mountain ranges, the tectonic folds here having created the most incredible forms, formations and stunning valleys in between...)
#MountainMonday #LandscapePhotography

B&W photo of a mountain peak exhibiting intensely folded layers of rock and resulting curved forms, cliffs and ridges over multiple levels. Forested slopes running halfway up from the valley, snowfields higher up near the bare rocky peak. Sunny day with semi-overcast sky.

Three years ago, I was busy finishing Marblemania, an endless algorithmic/generative realtime animation piece inspired by marbling, using softbody physics (but no actual fluid sim) and with thousands of variations and stylistic options...
This video shows stills of a small sampling of these variations.
More variations here (and in the #Marblemania hashtag):

A collection of still images, each frame showing a different variation (of thousands) of marbling-inspired algorithmically created swirling patterns/simulations, many of them multilayered.

How is it possible in 2026 for Canon to not provide (anywhere) an ICC profile for their scanners?! The colors are completely off and everything has a purple tint... 😩
Does anyone know where to find ICC profiles for the Canon LIDE series (400)? Otherwise I will have to purchase an IT8.7 calibration target and crack out the LittleCMS tooling to create my own ICC profile. Great customer service!
