Anti-war activists in the '60s and early '70s did not just organize headline-grabbing mass marches.
They patiently worked together to build a vast anti-war infrastructure
– legal groups, GI coffeehouses, alternative newspapers and national anti-war coalitions
– that could sustain a wide range of future actions.
In working towards that goal,
anti-war activists benefited from the rich social fabric of associational life in the US

Interesting and probably controversial observation for many by Andrew Ng,
" I’ve stopped writing code by hand. More controversially, I’ve long stopped reading generated code. I realize I’m in the minority here, but I feel like I can get built most of what I want without having to look directly at coding syntax, and I operate at a higher level of abstraction using coding agents to manipulate code for me."

Nurse Log
(Path through beautifully lush old growth forest on the slopes of Saddle Mountain, Oregon, in the spring of 2017)
#ThickTrunkThursday #NaturePhotography #Mosstodon

Photo of dense old growth temperate rain forest with trees heavily covered in moss. A large nurse log (also slowly overgrown) is lying on the ground among ferns and other low growth vegetation. Fog drifting through the forest.

Previously (same valley):
#MountainMonday

B&W photo of a view across a beautiful alpine valley and the semi-forested slopes and rocky peaks on the other side of the valley, the higher up parts slightly sprinkled with fresh snow. A small creek and waterfall coming down through one of the gullies. Cloudy, wintry sky.

Remember that weird failed rusty red print I posted on Sunday? Seeing very early on that something went astray with the emulsion coating, I didn't fully develop the print (only dev and clearing, no fixer or toner) and just left it to dry, wanting to see what would happen to it...
Three days later, and it has turned into the strangest (but somehow exciting) result I've ever seen, burgundy with slightly blue highlights. It still seems to continue bleeding further into the paper, …

Photo of a failed Kallitype print of a large mountain peak. Instead of black and white, the print is strong burgundy, with slightly blueish highlights. The emulsion outside the frame is continuing to bleed further into the surrounding paper

Super chill, trippy Moog improv with a monotonous backing downtempo drum loop and beautiful warm bass... One of my fave tracks by Terranova and very much reminding me of own south London pub jams with an SP808 and friends playing bass & Juno 106 on winter nights in the late 90s...

Morteratsch and the majestic Bernina range in full glory 🤩
Yes! That's what I'm talking about... Reprint was successful and much improved! Tweaked negative, new developer mix & weaker toner for more neutral grays. Also built an interim solution/contraption (involving 6kg of books as weight) to ensure the contact print is sharp everywhere...

Entering the canyon
(Half an hour earlier we were sitting and basking in the sun at the top of those cliffs on the left...)
#SilentSunday #LandscapePhotography #NaturePhotography

View of a mountain creek near entering a deep rocky canyon section. Lush alpine forest (mostly Swiss pines) and small cliffs on the right hand side, craggy larger cliffs and bushes on the left. A lot of the vegetation is in beautiful autumn colors. Clear blue sky.

En Route To Fellaria
(This is just a tiny fragment, but it was one of the most memorable days and places I had a chance to visit in 2025... Surreal not just because of the many colors and textures at this time of year [late September], but also the vastness and traces of processes so much larger & older than life...)
#MountainMonday

Wide-format photo of a high alpine landscape with dried orange grasses (picture taken on a sunny day in early October), shrubs, boulders and patches of small trees. In the medium distance is a large water reservoir with low water level of milky gray water. Steep grassy & rocky slopes and erosion gullies in the background. No visible sky.

#FootpathFriday #LandscapePhotography #NaturePhotography

View of a mountain landscape from above a small lake with green/blue water, surrounded by forest and meadows. Snow capped larger mountains in the background.
View across a still half-frozen lake towards the other side basking in warm afternoon light. The grasses and reeds are completely dry and golden. Some trees scattered and the forest edge in the background.
Cute close up of a narrow path in the afternoon sunlight with heather (in bloom) growing on both sides. An old tree stump semi-overgrown with moss.
Close up of some heather near the 50m drop off toward the lake in the background. Beautiful blue water surface.

Historic Glacial Confluence
This is the site of confluence of the former glaciers Vernagtferner and Hintereisferner, two of the most (and longest) studied glaciers in the world. It is the site (at ~2200m) where several times over the past thousand years the ice of the Vernagtferner would pile up to form a massive dam, 150-200m tall, which caused a semi-permanent ice lake to form in the Rofen/Hintereis valley above (the one visible from ~7 seconds). Many times this lake would get up to …

300 degree video panorama/pan of a high alpine landscape showing the confluence of two former glaciers, now reduced to rocky river beds cutting through canyons in a vast tree-less landscape shaped by glacial activity. Snow capped mountains in the distance. Sunny day with semi-overcast blue sky.
