Spring, Life.
(Yesterday, as seen from one of my fave spots on the banks of the river Lech...)
#SilentSunday #NaturePhotography #Photography

Telescopic view of a section of lush and dense mixed forest with trees in various stages of springing back to life: Some in full bloom, some with fresh bright green leaves, others still only bare with old dried leaves from last year glowing in the afternoon sun. A group of conifers in the middle. All in all, a cornucopia of colors and textures, almost an impressionistic, abstract image.

Latest 8x6" toned kallitype print, fresh from the tray (well, from the drying line)... 🤩
(Kallitype is quite challenging in terms of balancing achieving deep blacks vs detail, so this scene took quite some tweaking to retain the details in the band of dark shadowy forest, but I'm happy how it turned out...)
#AltProcess

Phone picture of a 8x10" piece of paper with a slightly smaller kallitype print of a high alpine mountain landscape. The picture shows the view of deep valley with a long smooth glacial ridge leading up to snow covered peaks. A band of forest is running down the slopes in the foreground, still mostly in the shade, but a small area near the edge which is catching the morning sun.

Last Light, Last Look Back (Vol.2)
Somewhat unexpectedly, even in the valley, we had the whole place pretty much to ourselves. Not quite the usual Easter weather, but the snow & ice always welcome and emphasizes the majestic scale/depth...

B&W photo of a frozen mountain lake surrounded by steep, almost vertical rock faces and snowy mountain peaks. Only the tops are catching the last light, the rest in deep shade...

Slowly getting into a rhythm to start the day with doing a print each morning, each time still tweaking either negatives, concentrations and/or durations of different processing stages to adjust tones/hues... A new adventure with some back and forth each time!
This print is of Langkofel / Sassolungo, one of my favourite mountain massifs, just such interesting features and so many dear memories, here seen from the east (around half and hour before sunset)...

iPhone photo of a 8x6" kallitype print of a photo of the Langkofel mountain massif with its talus fields and some scattered pine forest in the foreground. The sky is filled with layers of small clouds illuminated by the evening sun. The picture is surrounded by a thick dark brown border of the exposed hand-painted photo emulsion.

My 10mm thick ultraclear glass plate (for contact prints) arrived and the weight and increase in sharpness is like day & night.. wow! 🤩
Since this new glass also seems to transmit more UV light (as I had hoped), I'll have to do more test strips for adjusted exposure times. The print below actually is a test strip too (using 4 sections of different exposure times), but only the right quarter (80 seconds) seems to noticeable different/lighter. So it seems UV transmission has incr…

Pastel Fog Rise
(Watching the sunrise and a dramatic fog rise on an early summer morning near Zugspitze, 2024. The summit is partially visible through the clouds...)
#SilentSunday #LandscapePhotography

Photo of a dramatic cloud forming from the dense rising fog near the steep slopes of the Zugspitze (its summit visible in a gap between the clouds). The cloud is illuminated by pink/orange pastel early morning light. A massive single red-white mast for a cable car is towering above the forest in the foreground, some nearby trees also catching the light of the rising sun. In the background, glimpses of talus fields through the clouds.

(From the same October morning as the previous image...)
#SilentSunday #LandscapePhotography #NaturePhotography

A long ridge line leading up to snowy peaks (~3000 meters), getting increasingly rugged and jagged at higher elevations. Beautiful dense alpine autumn forest on the slopes in the foreground with some bright yellow larches dotted here and there, emphasized by the golden morning sun. Meander (2025).
(Unlike people who're associating a strong negative connotation with that word, I've always seen active meandering as a strength, a never ending search and adaptation of one's course in changing environments, finding/encouraging/prioritizing flow, learning/sharing/depositing bits of knowledge/material in different places and thereby also changing your local environment, at least a little...)

Some _very_ early algorithm concept/pre-viz sketches/explorations for the Tron Legacy (2010) intro sequence. They informed another concept/approach in which we applied a similar algorithm to progressively trace out edges of an initially invisible and super detailed 3D city mesh. This required a lot of effort to retopologize the (huge) geometry supplied and creating a multi-res navigation graph to prioritize long/major edges over shorter ones, filter out undesired edges/directions, thereby cr…

Toblinger Knoten / Torre di Toblin
(October 2024)
#SilentSunday #LandscapePhotography #Photography

View a large rock tower behind another lower mountain peak near a pass with a small chapel (good for appreciating the scale). The mountain nearest to the pass has visible tunnel openings at its base above the talus fields. These are remnants of the frontline from world war I. Massive cumulus clouds are forming in the background, above them clear blue sky. The entire scene is bathed in warm late afternoon light of October. All the grass patches have turned into a rich coffee brown.
