Nixon tried using IEEPA's predecessor law to impose 10% across the board tariffs, too. He did not prevail.

I’m Richard M. Nixon was the most corrupt President we’d ever had years old.
Weird how Fat Nixon's dictatorial extremism suddenly surged in the last month, hmm?
Almost as if he's on a clock knowing JD Vance doesn't have the same hold on MAGA that he does.

As the Watergate revelations piled high, many Republicans abandoned Nixon. In Minnesota, Republicans were so embarrassed by the criminality they rebranded as the "Independent Republican Party."
When will we see today's Republicans stand up for the Constitution and the rule of law?
Let's be clear about it: this (📸 r.) is not gonna happen any time soon for Trump.
Thanks to @… for the comparison with Nixon/Brezhnev in her article. (Unfortunately I could not find 'her' photo of them)
> This is President Trump going bigger than President Nixon.
Feels like America is getting a new logo. Something bold and simple that'll appear in website favicons and ICE agent uniforms alike.

So I thought today that in the future Richard Nixon may no longer be the go-to stereotype villain-president.

Uspol, genocide
In case you're wondering whether "political violence" is escalating in the U.S.A. right now, of *course* it is as we move into an era of concentration campus and domestic military deployments. But both domestic genocides and purges as well as political violence targeted at individual prominent figures has been a *constant* throughout American history, from gun duels fought between political rivals to massacres of Native Americans in order to steal their land, to pogroms against Catholics, to literal wars on local Black success and political participation, all dating back before the American Revolution to the beginning of colonization. Thanks to Wikipedia, here's a *small sampling* where I attempted to whittle things down to about one event per decade before recent times.

Nixon's "Saturday Night Massacre" was 52 years ago today.
It was a shocking breach of DOJ norms, and a major turning point for public opinion on Watergate.
Trump already had one of these (on a Thursday) in February,
and has had at least four more since then
