It was a revelation to see Nigerian Modernism at the Tate, especially seeing the rooms full of people who clearly felt a strong, personal connection to the work. Here are some of my favourites.

Obiora Udechukwu - Our Journey, 1993 Four ink and acrylic panels in red and green, with a strong yellow serpent-like shape running through to a coil on the right. The original is very large and impressive.
Demas Nwoko, Night Club in Dakar, 1963 Three dancing couples, the men small and dressed in black, the women large and wearing red dresses. The background is colourful pools of light.
Ben Enwonwu, Negritude, 1973 A tall canvas in dark blue and black tones, featuring a radical curved female nude, side on. She is depicted infront of what look like trees, her head is bowed, creating a gorgeous curve down her back.
