Oh I do love how you have your Kitten¹ app’s database in memory – thanks to Kitten’s built-in JavaScript Database (JSDB)² – and accessible via the Kitten Shell (REPL)³ during dev.

Oh did the whole dogwood bloom sometime in the last day without me noticing? This is looking up at the night sky lit by an automatic floodlight some distance away.

A photo of a dogwood tree in full bloom. The petals are a pale, chalk-like brilliant grey with bits of the green leaves showing. The branches and trunk are a concrete grey with cool patterns in the 30+ year old bark. The photo was taken under the tree pointing up towards the night sky - the jet black of the background against the texture of the light petals is beautiful.

Claude Sonnet 4 describes the image as: "This appears to be a scene from a science fiction television production, likely from the 1980s based on the visual style and production values. The setting is clearly a futuristic spacecraft or space station interior, with characteristic sci-fi elements like computer terminals, metallic surfaces, and technical equipment visible in the background.

The scene shows three characters in what appears to be a tense or dramatic moment. One figure is wearing a l…

A TV (470MHz-790MHz) filter arrived today to try to cope with the temporary traffic light problems I mentioned the other day; they took the traffic lights away yesterday. Oh well, useful to have in the box for next time there's a concert on.

Claude, the AI model developed by Anthropic, was used by the US military during its operation to kidnap Nicolšs Maduro from Venezuela,
a high-profile example of how the US defence department is using artificial intelligence in its operations.
The US raid on Venezuela involved bombing across the capital, Caracas, and the killing of 83 people, according to Venezuela’s defence ministry.
Anthropic’s terms of use prohibit the use of Claude for violent ends, for the development o…

Warning: kissing fascist ass may result in liquid glass.
So my phone tricked me into updating to iOS 26 (nice one, asshats). And wow: it really is a case study in form over function. Gratuitous, meaningless aesthetics and motion. Decoration, not design. “Look what I can do!”
Oh well, if it gets me using my phone less, that’s a good thing, I guess.
But the next time you hear someone from Apple talking about design, please feel free to laugh in their damn faces. What a sad j…

John Paulson, a hedge fund billionaire and one of Donald Trump’s earliest Wall Street backers,
is planning to offshore an Ohio manufacturing plant to China despite heavy pushback from employees.
Workers at the plant call the move “a slap in our face”,
after Paulson vocally defended domestic manufacturing, and are fighting to keep the plant open.
Conn Selmer, the largest US manufacturer of brass and orchestra instruments,
told the union it planned to offshore mos…
