I resolved this year to have my slides for my graduate level stats class do more to engage with the eugenics and elitism that forms the backbone of academic quantitative methods. I think this representation of Fisher in my lecture on logit/probit regressions today turned out nicely.

I needed a way to have unique, student-facing identifiers for the people taking my class to ensure that name collisions don't cause students to see each others' info.
Sure, I _could_ use their student ID number, or a regular hash. But those would be obviously inferior to writing a bespoke unicode-face-making hasher function.
Was it a good use of my time? Absolutely.
