SFMTA is adding left turns back to Valencia at 17th, 21st and 23rd streets with a new phase, which will cut down on time for pedestrian and bike crossings. The word is that Mayor Lurie directly ordered this. Signal modifications are very expensive and that money could have gone to safety or transit priority.
Seems small, but it's wasteful and adds to the "death by a thousand cuts" for Transit First in Lurie's SF.

Left turns return to three intersections on Valencia this Sunday, June 15
This Sunday, June 15, left turns will be reinstated at three locations on Valencia Street, at 17th, 21st and 23rd streets. We’re reinstating these left turns based on feedback from the public about circulation on Valencia Street.

Valencia Street desperately needs wider sidewalks: they're absurdly substandard for the pedestrian traffic they carry. But there’s no plan for that, so the city is about to plant a new tree here that will then be an obstacle in the middle of the sidewalk when finally widened 🫠

Empty sidewalk basin with USA BUF markings. It’s about half the width of the 10 foot sidewalk.
