The worst language I ever had to use is that of TeX/LaTeX. (Perl is a close second. HTML5 CSS Javascript is striving to surpass the two.)
But at least TeX lets you do things you cannot do with any other software.
The worst language IN RELATION TO WHAT IT CAN DO must be the git command line interface. Proof: the sheer number of websites that try to explain how you do even the simplest operations, like creating a branch or uploading your changes. All in vain...

I have a question for those who know #rust. When I went to school I learned Assembly, ANSI C, Java, and Perl (oh... and Mathematica, but I'm trying to forget it). Then I learned VB (later .NET), C , and Python on my own. I've never been a full-time developer, but I will pick up an occasional pet project. Nearly everything I've done in the last 10 years has been in python.
Should I learn Rust? Are there new #programming concepts? Are there other reasons, as am #infosec professional, that make it worthwhile to run to an "Intro to Rust" class?

I recently needed a script to convert mbox files to maildir, and to my surprise this was a nontrivial problem. I only found one written in perl that didn't work with my mbox files. As I don't speak perl, rather than trying to fix it I wrote one in python. It's very simple, as python's standard library already brings all the functionality, in case anyone needs it:

@… It was a double edged sword, but definitely a big driver in getting me where I am today.
It was just a collection of perl scripts written mostly by students over the years, but they presented a terminal “GUI” in the same way k9s does. That’s what reminded me.

Okay #blender fans: I have a lack of compute problem.
The test version of the five minute topical videos I'm making is looking like it'd take about three to five days to render on my machine.
I need it overnight at least, ideally in an hour.
I intend to spend at last part of the weekend figuring out how to use the compute markets to get spot compute to render the thing frame by frame on hundreds or thousands of computers instead.
Last time I did this kinda thing I was using AWS spot markets and custom software badly taped together with perl scripts.
Surely something better exists now? How can I farm out my rendering? Did any of those crypto projects actually make it possible to borrow a thousand gamer's graphics cards for an hour yet?
