The Speakers
This is a spoken word poem read on top of a vaguely hip-hop backing track posted on the "Twanger Central" section of the guitar-oriented discussion board www.tdpri.com by a player whose screen name is "cminor9." The poem was a morning poem (sometimes I wake up with some lines) that I didn't know what to do with. It fit here. "Speakers" is a synonym for "humans" in this context.

In his youth, Charles Darwin had an inordinate fondness for beetles.
Late in life, he wrote in his autobiography:
No poet ever felt more delighted at seeing his first poem published than I did at seeing, in Stephens’ ‘Illustrations of British Insects,’ the magic words, “captured by C. Darwin, Esq.”
The Stephens in question was James Francis Stephens, a top entomologist, whom the young Darwin had visited in early 1829

Yes yes yes, I realize that the 5/7/5 syllable count is neither necessary nor sufficient to make a poem a true haiku, and that syllable counting has very little to do with the classical Japanese form or its modern literary incarnations. But going by syllables alone makes the bit work!
