As Donald Trump and his administration have rolled back rights, cut social safety net programs to pay for tax cuts for the wealthy and ignored or failed to comply with court orders,
new demographics are being activated to join a broader coalition of people fighting for education, racial justice, gun control, science, the environment, immigration and the LGBTQ community.
From local grassroots efforts to nationwide groups, today’s organizers are breaking down barriers and creati…

Great comment by @…:
«[…] private institutions are fundamentally extractive. Decisions are made on the basis of profit or some similar self-serving motivation. They provide as little as possible for the revenue they receive. Public institutions, by contrast, are fundamentally constructive. They exist to promote the social good or (if we believe Mark Carney) s…

Even Malala's been ghosted: '"not one of them picked up the phone, or replied to my messages [regarding her pleas to evacuate Afghan partners]. To the men who ran the world, I was just a photo op." [...] She notes, pointedly, that female politicians did.'
Deeply reflexive piece on her unrelenting efforts on the right to education. Personal, political, professional. From child activist to global woman leader.
At 28 she has done more than most will in our life…

This is how a US federal employee comments on their out-of-office signature being hijacked for political gains:
"Nobody follows the law anymore, so why does it matter? It seems like laws are dotted lines now, not solid lines. It seems there’s no one to hold this administration accountable to laws"

Zapatista Solidarity Network! on Instagram: "📢‼️URGENT On November 26, 2025, Indigenous land defender Marcos Aguilar Rojas was assassinated for protecting his ancestral territory in San Lorenzo de Azqueltán, Jalisco, Mexico. He leaves behind five young children — including two babies — and elderly parents who depended on him. Marcos was a devoted father, a loving son, and a guardian of Mother Earth. He refused to abandon his community despite threats and violence. This was a planned political attack from those trying to steal Indigenous ancestral territory. ✨ That’s why we are asking for your solidarity: @semillas_collective is collecting donations that will go directly to Marcos’s family and Indigenous community to support: • His children’s wellbeing (food, housing, education) • Care for his parents • Community protection against further attacks • Legal justice for his assassination 🔗Link in our bio to the fundraiser and the communiqué from the Autonomous Indigenous Community or San Lorenzo de Azqueltán (adherents of the National Indigenous Congress [CNI]) 📣Please donate if you are able. If you cannot, share and help us break the silence. Marcos lives in the land, in his children, and in our struggle. Marcos vive — la lucha sigue. ✊🏽💚🌱 #JusticeForMarcos #Semillas #IndigenousSolidarity #Azqueltán #LandBack #ProtectLandDefenders #NoMoreImpunity #MarcosVive #LaLuchaSigue"

We officially live in a dictatorship. This illegal, unconstitutional bullshit will let them use anything you've *ever* said that could be construed as being a negative statement on Christianity, our government, or capitalism is now their tool to watchlist you and use it to punitively exclude you from air/train/bus travel, banking, credit, government benefits, education, etc...

Robert Reich keeps getting emails and running into people in the street who say they went to their local theater and were thrilled to find a sense of hope and community they hadn’t expected,
and were desperate for.
Several people said they stayed in the lobby afterwards to speak with people they just met to talk about the importance of education and democracy,
and even to plan political protests and other forms of community engagement.
While the film is still playing…

There were actually a lot of good recommendations from that Committee report, the one on PR was just the final one! Here's a few more.. including some that local #Fediverse proponents could dig into! @… was on the Committee.
—>FEDI ADVANTAGE<— “The Committee heard about a number of issues related to
the electoral information environment. Members recommend
that the provincial government collaborate with Elections
BC and the federal government to review existing legislative
and regulatory measures related to misinformation,
disinformation, and hate speech during elections, including
**mechanisms to ensure the timely removal of harmful content** (**emphasis added)”
—> FEDI ADVANTAGE<— “To better address challenges associated with social media and emergent technologies such as artificial intelligence, Members recommend establishing a working group to propose amendments to BC’s privacy and election legislation. To better protect all users, the Committee recommends requiring digital platforms to act with a duty of care and establish clear safety-related requirements such as data privacy, platform design, and content policy. The Committee also heard about concerns regarding foreign interference, and recommends that these be considered by the Electoral Integrity Working Group.”
—The Committee heard about the critical importance of
civic education to ensure the public’s understanding of
democratic institutions, processes, and participation. The
Committee recommends strengthening civic education
in the K-12 school system with input from experts and a
greater emphasis on applied learning.
— the Committee suggests enhancing data collection by requiring proactive enumeration on an annual basis and ensuring that registered parties and candidates can access poll-by-poll results. Elections BC should review and improve
voter registration practices and communication, as well as
access to and public awareness of voting opportunities. With respect to expanding voter eligibility, the Committee supports further examination of extending voting rights to 16- and 17-year-olds as well as permanent residents in BC.
— Committee Members recommend modernizing the candidate nominator verification process, requiring Elections BC to collect and share voters’ contact information with registered political parties and candidates, and strengthening measures related to access to multi-unit buildings for candidates and their campaigns.
