Abstract: The Next Generation Virgo Cluster Survey (NGVS) is a deep, high resolution imaging campaign that used the 1 deg$^2$ MegaCam instrument on the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope to carry out a comprehensive optical survey of the Virgo cluster, from its core to its virial radius. The NGVS covers a contiguous area of 104 deg$^2$ (8.63 Mpc$^2$ at the 16.5 Mpc distance of Virgo) in the $u^*$-,$g$-,$i$-, and $z$-band, with additional limited coverage in $r$. In this paper, we present the final catalog of Virgo galaxies across the entire NGVS area. The catalog includes 3680 galaxies considered to be $bona~fide$ members of the cluster, spanning a factor of 2.5 million in luminosity, from $g = 8.42$ mag to $g = 24.41$ mag ($M_g = -22.67$ mag to $M_g = -6.68$ mag). With 2100 previously uncataloged galaxies, the NGVS catalog augments the number of known Virgo members by a factor 2.3. The catalog is complete down to $g = 18.6$ mag ($M_g=-12.5$ mag, corresponding to a stellar mass $M_* \sim 1.6\times10^7~M_{\odot}$ for an old stellar population) and 50% complete at $g = 22.0$ mag ($M_g=-9.1$ mag, $M_* \sim 6.2\times10^5~M_{\odot}$), three magnitudes deeper than the venerable Virgo Cluster Catalog (VCC), which for over 40 years has served as the reference standard for Virgo. Photometric and structural parameters are derived for all NGVS galaxies and presented in a series of tables, alongside nuclear and morphological classification, as well as stellar masses and, when available, radial velocities.

Is emoji interpretation just a "fun" summer topic, or does emoji misinterpretation ever become serious, like in court discussions? - In face there have been several cases both in North America and Europe where emoji meanings were negotiated in court! I keep a collection of them because it's a nice intersection with my alter ego, the "forensic" linguist. For example, in cases from Canada and Bavaria, judges had to decide whether a thumbs-up 👍 in a chat was meant as a signal of agreement (to a contract or contract amendment), or whether (like the senders argued) it constituted only an acknowledgement of receipt of the message. In both cases, the context was super important - how did the parties interact before, what else was said in the chat, etc. Interesting! #emojis #linguistics #WorldEmojiDay

Abstract: We describe a high-order ADER-DG solver for the compressible Euler equations within the ExaHyPE framework. The implementation combines a high-order ADER-DG polynomial representation, a local space-time DG predictor, adaptive mesh refinement, and an a posteriori subcell finite-volume limiter. We test the code on a deliberately mixed set of one- and two-dimensional problems: a strong-shock Sod-type problem, the Shu-Osher shock-entropy interaction, the Woodward-Colella blast wave, a contact-driven vortex sheet, and a shock-interface interaction. The one-dimensional cases recover the expected Euler wave patterns and show clear order-dependent gains in smooth and oscillatory regions. The two-dimensional cases probe a different part of the method, namely contact preservation, shear-driven roll-up, baroclinic vorticity deposition, and Richtmyer-Meshkov-type growth. In these tests the high-order update gives the expected resolution away from discontinuities, whereas the subcell limiter keeps the calculation stable near shocks and steep interfaces. The resulting code provides a reproducible ExaHyPE implementation for idealised inviscid, non-relativistic flows in which shocks, contacts, and multidimensional interfaces are the dominant features.
