Note that we strongly suspect the interruption of university traffic to have been collateral damage, and not the target of the attack. All indicators point to the two specific @… relays to have been the real target. Funnily enough, one of them was automatically restarted because of resource exhaustion, and otherwise the relays kept working.
We also know why the collateral outage happened, but first want to analyze it further and potentially talk to the network device vendor before I can publicly release more details. There may be a coordinated disclosure process in our near term future...
