Odd etymological question: I was interested today in whether the Soviet word for a labour camp, Gulag, was related to the Nazi-era German word for a prisoner of war camp, Stalag. Gulag is apparently a contraction of 'Гла́вное управле́ние исправи́тельно-трудовы́х лагере́й', where the last word transliterates as 'lageréy', while Stalag is a contraction of 'Kriegsgefangenen-Mannschaftsstammlager'.
