'In the final year of lycée, pupils study Rousseau’s Du Contrat Social (The Social Contract), ... put simply, you pay heavy taxes and in return you expect the country to work. That bargain is how the French understand their relationship with the state. When the government raises the retirement age, lets electricity bills soar or cuts school budgets, that is seen as a breach of the social contract. Protest is the automatic response.'

Angry French students take to the streets. British students don’t – and I think I know why
I grew up in France, where all children are taught about the revolutionary roots of their nation and the responsibility of the state towards its citizens, says Kitty Sayers, a master’s student in journalism

Regarding Hong complaining about Thanksgiving (or any holiday) I saw a comment that said "No shit! She was a service industry worker. We all hate the holidays!" and like, yeah... I started to hate certain holidays when my job involved mandatory "all hands on deck" events where I got assigned to do shitwork, so I get it.
And yeah, Thanksgiving does have colonialist roots!

On our hike last Saturday I wanted to get an ipression of the part of the trail - the problem: the original photo just looked bad - chaos, "bad" light, ...
but I liked the structure and so - converted it to monochrome and was quite surprised to be honest!

Deep roots help you reach new heights...or something like that

The roots of Carboliq's tech can be traced back to another company named AlphaKat that was once a partner of Recenso. They parted ways long ago. AlphaKat has, over the years, found plenty of people excited about its technology, although it often did not achieve what it promised. I touch many aspects of that complex story only briefly. Recenso developed the technology independently, first as a waste-to-fuel technology (Dieselwest), later with a different focus on plastics recycling as Carboliq.
