This seems bad. We just learned in the past week via @… that ICE agents are searching Flock cameras nationwide, and so did a Texas cop trying to track down a woman who got an out-of-state abortion. Now, without any guardrails against that, a crypto billionaire wants $9m more of these cameras in SF.

It’s frustrating and disappointing to see people, including governments, police, and others, misrepresent GrapheneOS and even Pixel phones.

Trump is taking decisive steps to crush administrative safeguards and preempt legal challenges,
allowing his administration to rapidly consolidate a surveillance state with diminished privacy rights.
Aided by recent Supreme Court decisions, Republican lawmakers, and quickly eroding due process rights,
the administration is ensuring that the data and sensitive information of each person in the U.S. can be used against them.

#podcast recc: How Trump is Using the Surveillance State Against Us (w/ Patrick G. Eddington) - Pocket Casts pocketcasts.com/podcasts/f03e1

Donald Trump’s deployment of the National Guard and military against protesters in Los Angeles is widely being interpreted as
a display of intimidation and state power ahead of his birthday,
when Trump will oversee a military parade in Washington, D.C. in the style of a dictator.
The president has warned that protesters in D.C. will be
“met with very heavy force.”
Democrats and civil rights groups say the president is inflaming tensions to justify further repr…

According to Medina, the agents told her to exit her home with her children. Standing in the driveway, they showed her a warrant for her husband, with his name listed as David Garcia.
As she explained that her husband’s name is Jorge and that he was not at the house, **one of the agents is captured on an outdoor home surveillance camera turning the device away from what was transpiring. **

«So even though driverless cars nominally have nothing to do with law enforcement, police are treating them as though they are their own roving surveillance cameras.».
And by extension, protestors and other people start to view them as the state surveillance tools they are.

If you read the "Bluesky requires IDs now" post:
1. This only applies to UK users.[1]
2. It's because the UK is building a surveillance state that requires websites and apps to do this, not because Bluesky is evil.[2]
3. It's either that or shut down in the UK.
Whether you like it or not, this also affects Mastodon—and even personal blogs with comments enabled.[3]

What is this bullshit system that claims to evoke and champion freedom and liberty while at the same time constructing a surveillance and police state the likes of which the world has never seen before?
This is fucking mental and the pretence is over now. This is what neoliberalism has created.

“Resist and Heal,” my friends. Citizenship is not a spectator sport. “Finding and sharing trusted voices” is a critical part of the anti-fascist work to which we are now called.

“Siloviki” is perhaps the most borrowed word in Russian studies
— probably because it explains so much about Putin’s Russia.
Its members are the police, the border control, the army, the security services, the spies.
For their service to the regime, they are rewarded with early pensions,
plenty of cash and almost total immunity from investigation for corruption or brutality.
In truth, the American security state, with its qualified immunity, surveillance appar…
