Over the last decade, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois has quietly become one of the most important IP courts in the country—maybe the world—due to the rise of a new form of mass-defendant IP litigation. In a “Schedule A” case, a plaintiff accuses online sellers of infringing one or more IP rights then seeks a TRO shutting down the alleged infringers’ stores and freezing their assets—all before the defendants even know they’ve been sued.
