Een flinke tegenvaller voor Nederlandse boeren. Zij hoeven niet te rekenen op een nieuwe uitzondering op de Europese mestregels. Demissionair landbouwminister Femke Wiersma had daartoe een verzoek ingediend bij Eurocommissaris Jessika Roswall, maar dat is afgewezen. Dat meldt de BBB-bewindsvrouw aan de Tweede Kamer. "Ik vind dit besluit van de Europese Commissie zeer teleurstellend", schrijft zij.

The Netherlands didn't get a new exception ('derogation') from EU limits on how much manure can be injected into our fields. We're led to believe that's an unwelcome surprise for the Minister from 'farmers' party' BBB, but it's not. We consistently have too high nitrogen deposition and poor water quality.
