Getting ready for the premiere of "The Adventures of Dirk Balsäk" next week, and I'm revisiting the project files for E1. Had to copy back onto a fast drive from an external, and a year and a half later certain things have broken. For the life of me couldn't figure out why certain clips were not rendering, and it's because I used an effect that I no longer have installed!!

I know this is me being an example of the Dunning-Kruger effect, but I can't help myself to stop believing that the whole #email infrastructure is completely fucked up and that it should be rewritten from scratch.
Anyone who can take me out of this intellectual hole with an explanation on why we haven't collectively invented something better already? (not better than email as a concept, I'm referring to the protocols & standards around it)
What are my unknown unknowns here?

Ok, yeah, I'm not done processing my anger over liberals doing shit like this. So this historian sees a rise in right wing violence, sees the US government carrying out ethnic cleansing, sees a rise in white supremacist terrorism, and then says, "oh yeah... this reminds me of a time right around the 1920s. Hum... yeah, ANARCHISTS fighting the government! Yeah, that's the same thing."
FFS, IT'S THE RED SUMMER! If you want a parallel between today and some horrible time in US history, TALK ABOUT THE RED SUMMER. The point of the language of dehumanization that the right uses, the point of all the anti-black and anti-emigrant rhetoric, is that it leads to genocide. Trump already carried out an act of genocide (#USPol

So #Vanguard tries really hard to _disable_ any form of using a password manager to log into their site. Do they really believe that it is more secure for people to choose passwords that they can type?
I hate gut-feeling based security methods. Show me the data that this usability blocker has a measurable effect on security and that there aren't other options that don't have thes…

Having just watched #Jaws for the first time in ages, I was stunned by the famous opening sequence ... but not by its cinematography or acting or editing - but by the never-ending chain of in-your-face #continuity errors in lighting once the girl enters the water: one moment we have a low Sun and a red sky, then we have the Sun near the zenith (with a day for night effect) then low again and so on, for several cycles.
Now #Spielberg, is there supposed to be some hidden message here? Well, there isn't.
(Once it's day, fortunately, this problem is gone, and a great movie unfolds, still fresh after 50 years. And I know, you shouldn't mess with a masterpiece, but Lucas added characters to Star Wars IV, and Cameron corrected a wrong star pattern in Titanic, so may be Spielberg could just, for an anniversary special edition ... o.k., I shut up. ;-)

The one thing that does seem clear to me is that this is deeply entangled with the ultra-concentration of wealth and power, something which is both a cause •and• an effect of creators not sharing properly in the rewards of their creations.
If you talk to me about antitrust law with teeth or ending regulatory capture or a wealth tax, well, I don’t know how we get there — but you have my attention.

The idea that propaganda's main effect is in what it makes normal keeps sticking with me. I see it everywhere now. And it's how so much media that doesn't set off alarm bells as trying to manipulate so effectively works as propaganda. Reject or accept the overt message, the covert normalization works either way.

Google ads transparency just became significantly less transparent.

”Google appears to have deleted its political ad archive for the EU; so the last 7 years of ads, of political spending, of messaging, of targeting - on YouTube, on Search and for display ads - for countless elections across 27 countries - is all gone.

We had been told that Google would try to stop people placing political ads, a "ban" that was to come into effect this week. I did not read anywhere th…
