If I understand correctly, the contracts for housing asylum-serkers in ramshackle hotels (because they can't work or access benefits) are open to rip-offs by hotel owners and the taxi firms contracted to do the transport.
So the people badly served are now further demonised and will mostly be denied help to get to health appointments.
Further demonisation.
Correct me if that's wrong because the news hasn't been very clear. BBC radio 4 played a part in this.

Legacy Python Bootstrap Scripts Create Domain-Takeover Risk in Multiple PyPI Packages
Cybersecurity researchers have discovered vulnerable code in legacy Python packages that could potentially pave the way for a supply chain compromise on the Python Package Index (PyPI) via a domain takeover attack.

Laptop backup day. I have a reminder for the last Sunday of each month. It doesn't take much time and being a Sunday I am normally not using my laptop.
Simple batch script using XCOPY. Low tech and it works. Upside is that any other machine & O/S can read the contents of the drive. I cycle between two drives (Eventually I will buy a third). Cheap insurance in case of a machine failure.
Why? Well I have the condo newsletters I write with the templates, photos and ba…

Both Quikscript and Shavian were essentially the results of a design competition,
sponsored--posthumously--by playwright George Bernard Shaw,
who laid out the terms in his will.
Shaw wanted someone to create an ideal phonetic alphabet for English that trumped Pitman shorthand.
British designer Ronald Kingsley Read, a finalist in the 1960s competition, designed both Quikscript and Shavian, the latter being named in Shaw's honor

It’s about this time of year I like to check my backups and download my archives.
One archive I download is the archive of my Mastodon posts. Pretty much the only one now I’ve left the corporate web really.
I also like to copy the contents of my public fediverse posts into my own diary within my vimwiki.
Keep it all in one place for easy and local search.
Here’s the script I use, it’s very short and just copies the content of every post in the archive into a new diary entry in the vimwiki diary.
If it finds something already there, it appends.
It checks if it’s already written this post into the diary to avoid duplicating it when you run it over and every again every month or year or whatever.
Paste it into a new text-file called toVimWiki.php, download and unzip your mastodon archive, and run the script with php, passing it the path to the archive’s outbox.json and the root diary directory.
My diary is honestly mostly just public posts these days. Ain’t much in it I won’t blab about on the internet for likes and lols.

I‘m from West Germany, I never learned Russian or even how to read Cyrillic script. But since Russia‘s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 I must have had so much much exposure that I can now read this important message on a sign at #39C3. Learning through osmosis in times of crisis.

A sign that says „Агент ФСБ, иди на хуй!“ (FSB agent, fuck off!)

Claude Haiku 4.5 describes the image as: "# Image Description

This image shows an actor in a theatrical or television production setting against a dark, minimalist backdrop. The performer is wearing a distinctive costume consisting of a tan or beige long-sleeved turtleneck paired with a red sleeveless tunic or vest layered over it. The lighting is warm and theatrical, creating an int…

Hur orkar man ett krig som närmar sig sitt fjärde år? Jag har skrivit om uthålligheten i Ukraina - den som består av tusentals små beslut varje dag. Och om att få en gåva av presidentadministrationen för mina insatser där.

I made a script for this, but then I thought a webui would be better so I could use it in my phone and stuff
I asked an LLM to generate a python webui to run server-side the script I wrote, and surprisingly it 100% worked first try. I was sure it wouldn’t work at all, but I didn’t touch that code and it works.
I can’t even say I “vibe coded” this bc I didn’t even read the code enough to know its vibes lmao. I’m surprised this even works, and it does work well. What the actual fuck.
Welp, not my favourite way to do things but I wasn’t in the mood to do python and figure out the extra libraries and stuff.
And it works so I’ll just use that. In a hardened systemd service to make sure it doesn’t like accidentally delete my whole system or something.
