Glad to celebrate the release of The Freaks Came Out To Write, Tricia Romano’s incredible oral history of the Village Voice. I’m a tiny footnote amongst so many huge voices. And very surreal to read back what I remember about waking up the morning of 9/11.

ANIL DASH: I had been there three months. I'd been up till two or three in the morning, working on something on the website, and crashed. My alarm went off at nine o'clock. And I turn on the TV, which is so funny - 1 would never turn on the TV first thing in the morning - but I did then.
The first plane had hit, not the second. I was just like, "Oh, this is like some accident, some dumbass doesn't know how to fly a plane." I was having breakfast. The second plane hit, and I immediately got a bu…

Hey friends!
We spent this #Saturday on our bikes. My wife selected a beautiful 40km loop. Lots of fields, forests, minor roads.
We didn't meet a lot of cars or other cyclists but hat a really really beautiful day with magnificent views.
I also recorded some clips. Maybe I'll compile them later as well!
And navigating with my new cycling computer could not have b…

ALMA, as part of the Event Horizon Telescope, is unveiling a new image of our Milky Way's supermassive black hole, Sagittarius A*, in which strong magnetic fields can be seen…
The most exciting part is that this hints to a jet that would be hidden from our vantage point in our galaxy… but imagine that! We might be like M87, just at a smaller scale!

Event Horizon Telescope image of Sag A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way galaxy.

The background is mostly black, but a kind of hairy, slightly squashed donut shape in orange can be seen. The central blackness is the shadow of the Sag A*.

The hairy aspect comes from visualising the strength of the magnetic field.
Messier object 87 by Hubble space telescope.
This is the galactic core shown as a composite image of visible and infrared observations in order to resolve the blue jet.
The field of view is about 1.5 arc minutes across, the jet extends to about a third of an arc minute (or 20 arc seconds) with a width of about 2 arc seconds (absolute length 5 kly at a distance of 53 Mly).

@… Hey folks, quick question: any idea why the embed of my video at the European Parliament from your PeerTube instance is showing a password field and lock. (I’m on my phone and haven’t had a chance to view source.) Would appreciate it if you could take a look. Thank you :)
