My cousin came over for Christmas dinner and when he saw my beloved Thinkpad, he said it was an "old brick" compared to his Macbook. If I'd had that Macbook handy, I would have smashed it over his head.

I have a slightly older and lower spec Toshiba laptop... maybe I should do that for Windows 95 and reinstall Windows 98 on the ThinkPad 760XL.
The ThinkPad is from mid-1997 and originally came with Windows 95, and has a 166 MHz Pentium; the Toshiba is from mid-1996 and has a 100 MHz Pentium.
Decisions, decisions.
I want to throw away all my computers, maybe even my ThinkPad. But who really holds the right to judge how I live? Authority itself is a chain meant to be shattered.

What the fresh hell is this?! My replacemet work Thinkpad arrived yesterday, and it's got some god forsaken faux-metallic grey finish!
Thinkpads are supposed to be *black*
What on earth are you doing Lenovo?!

Upgraded my old ThinkPad X220 with a 1TB SSD drive now. Running Debian with Cinnamon desktop. It's fast enough for everyday work even with the just 8GB of RAM. I might upgrade that to 16GB. Most annoying bit is the dead battery and the small screen. I might eventually get a new battery so the thing won't turn off at every wiggle of the power cable. But apart from that, still a perfectly fine machine. It's from around 2011 ...
I need people to understand that a Lenovo ThinkPad and a Lenovo IdeaPad, or a Lenovo Yoga and a Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga, are totally different things, where one is a flimsy piece of shit and the other has a good chance of being a computer that you replace because it finally got too slow rather than because every part on it failed multiple times. ThinkPads (mostly) last.
Asked a friend if he wants my old T440 touchpad AND 5 Euros. He declined.

Went with Windows 98 w/ Office ‘97 on the ThinkPad, works great on it.
Toshiba will be Windows 95 & Office ‘95 and whatever weird Windows 95 productivity apps I can find.

Achievement of the day:
Produce the same output as me_cleaner for a ThinkPad X270 image.
A few hardcoded assumptions and no extra options at this point.
Off to a good start! 🥳✨👩💻
hi, my name is stf, and i'm addicted to #trackpoints. having learned that the thinkpad trackpoint #keyboard II - is EOL - i panicked and bought all the available ones for reserve. but i also found two others the happyhackingkb which looks sleek, and the tex shura which is simpler but more modular…
Bought a new black computing rectangle (a.k.a. a laptop) yesterday as the current one doesn't have enough umph...also, I might've beat it down a bit too much. Went with a Lenovo Thinkpad P14s Gen 6 AMD laptop that was on sale because I wanted Linux support as a given (definitely been bitten by that before).
Went with the Ryzen 9 HX PRO 370 CPU (12c/24t) which has a very strong integrated GPU as well (890M). Told them to install [insert OS that isn't Windows on it because …
Dang... #RustDesk reliably crashes my Linux MINT installation on the ThinkPad X220 :(
I have a refurb Thinkpad incoming and I can NOT decide which distro I want to put on it. Paralysis of choice. Do I need to buy five more laptops? - Because you know a VM just doesn’t feel right.
Okay, initial thoughts on the Thinkpad P14s Gen 6:
- The laptop is better behaved thermally and noise-wise than the X1C with the Intel Core 155U.
- The CPU and GPU seem to be sipping power (3W/3W) which is nice. I haven't punched the CPU yet with something like a vicious `ffmpeg` AV1 encode.
- Replacing RAM/NVMe isn't too painful, the screws in the bottom case of the laptop are captive. Still have to deal with some plastic clips.
- The screen is fine, nothing to…
I guess I'm going to YOLO replacing the soldered wifi module on my ThinkPad ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you can manage to get your hands on one, the Lenovo ThinkPad C13 Yoga (a chromebook reflashed with MrChromeBox firmware) is the most perfect basic Linux laptop I've ever had. DO NOT get the 4GB RAM/eMMC model (problems); preferably get the 16GB RAM model if available; OLED screen is the max spec. The battery life is great. Everything works out of the box in openSUSE, including esoteric stuff like the touchscreen and pressure-sensitive stylus. It's just a delight, the best €140 I&#…
