Had Fun

Bought a car/micro-camper

Bought a van to do up as a micro-camper, and did a temporary rush job of that conversion myself while waiting in the list for the pro to do it.
Then the pro gave himself a health criss the week it was booked so I took apart my temp job and only got another temp kit-job in it's place.
Went out in it like four times during that and then broke my wrist and couldn't really use it or improve it.
Then had to take it apart even more to try
and figure out where the ad-blue hole was.
I will do a proper permanent job of the
floor and walls and ceiling and adjustments to the kit-job to make it the nicest it's been so far during the spring next year.
My assumption that the prior conversion
into a van and for wheelchair-access meant the microcamper conversion was half-done already turned out to be false.
If I buy a new one, it'll be one that has never been wheelchair adapted.
But it's going okay. Only scraped it once so far.
Fewer than aimed for or booked, but I broke my wrist and had to cancel the second half of the summer.
Went to a conference about money and computers and fringe decentralized social media and it wasn't as boring as you might expect and felt pretty much like a festival.
Exactly the target number! It's lovely.
Took 3 times longer than I'd hoped and
50% more money than I'd planned for really.
Still improvements to make but they will
be incremental and gradual over the coming year or two now.
It's been interest-only for 20 years so a big old lump sum payment that I never really expected to be able to make. Expected to have to sell and move at the end of the mortgage term.
But surprisingly the stocks ISA got high enough to pay it off after all, so I did that.
Cash-flow ruined by that and the bedroom but should start to feel a bit richer next year.

  • 60 out of 100 times it’ll “sync” and freeze with all 4 LEDs on. The Wii U does a little beep but doesn’t show the controller and no inputs work.
  • 38 out of 100 times the same thing will happen but with all LEDs off
    • You need to remove the batteries in order to take the wiimotes out of these states
  • 2 out of 100 times the wiimotes actually connect, but show with 1 battery bar and almost no inputs go through (and the ones that do are extremely laggy, except for the power button)
    • The manual states that if this happens you can remove the batteries, wait 3 minutes and connect (without syncing) again. That does fixes it sometimes, but it really only worked once for each wiimote.
    • A truly successful connection only happens after the “low battery one”, and even then it seems to be hard to achieve for the first time.
      • Afterwards you’re supposed to be able to reconnect without syncing and then not encounter the issues anymore. That was true for the pink wiimote, but the blue wiimote had to be synced again. I spent quite a few hours trying and wasn’t able to get a successful connection.
      • If you connect the pink wiimote that was working when the other wiimote is in the 4 LEDs freeze state it’ll break the connection of the other one and make you need to sync it again
        • Now none of my aliexpress wiimotes are synced and idk when I’ll be able to sync them again

Starting in January, the Trump administration says it will
garnish the wages of student loan borrowers who haven’t been able to make their payments for at least nine months.
“It’s cruel and hostile to working people to turn the system on before we’re sure that we can run it in a compliant manner,”
says Julia Barnard, higher education team lead at the Debt Collective and former student loan ombudsman at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Taking notes from the successes and failures of the Russian revolution, a group of anarchists (including Nestor Makhno, a Ukrainian anarchist militant who was critical in defeating the Tzar's army and who later also fought the Red Army) wrote a document titled the "Organizational Platform of the Libertarian Communists." This document came to be known as "The Platform." It remains one of the most important first-hand revolutionary documents, outlining a clear revolutionary plan.
I've taken this, the Viable System Model from cybernetics, and my own organizing experience, to describe an organization to confront the current set of crises.
This continues to build on the stuff I have been writing, but it's a lot less high level theory and a lot more specific.

As always, editing notes (typos, grammar, spelling, etc) are always welcome, as are any questions. My ADHD brain tends to go a lot faster than anything else, so I have a tendency to drop words and have a lot of trouble catching them later. Between my ADHD and mild dyslexia, it can be pretty hard for me to catch when autocorrect gives me the wrong word.
A lot of folks have already been super helpful in offering their editing support, and I'm really grateful. Writing this has felt collaborative, and it should. On the one hand this comes from my own experience and research, but on the other I'm also voicing things that have come from conversations here. This has all been a bit of my voice and a bit of the federated world, and I'm really appreciating that.

In the field of dynamical glaciology, this would be DeConto and Pollard, 2016.
I think it's dead wrong, but it's certainly led to some very interesting studies.and some real advanced in the otherwise moribund calving dynamics sub-field.
Would love to hear other suggestions from #climate (or adjacent) fields..

Hey friends of the #mountains - I almost didn't make it away from my couch today morning. But as you can see, I did!
I spent a couple of hours hiking into the snow. During the ascent I was happy that I left my snow shoes at home. Yet for half an hour or an hour, I really missed them when I sometimes sank in deeper than my knees.
But it was all well manageable and I regained so …

A stunning winter alpine landscape unfolds under a brilliant blue sky, where the sun shines brightly, casting a radiant glow over the snow-covered slopes. The pristine white snow blankets the undulating terrain, creating a breathtaking contrast with the deep blue of the sky. The snow's surface is smooth and untouched, save for a few tracks left by adventurous hikers or skiers.

Scattered across the slope are clusters of evergreen trees, their branches heavy with snow, adding texture and depth t…
A moment of joy and adventure is captured in this vibrant winter scene. A hiker stands atop a snow-covered mountain slope, their face lit up with a warm smile as they take a selfie. Dressed in outdoor gear, including a bright green beanie, blue jacket, and a backpack equipped with a hydration pack, the hiker exudes a sense of preparedness and enthusiasm for the journey.

The backdrop is a stunning alpine landscape, where patches of snow cling to the rugged terrain. A cluster of evergreen trees,…

Someone asked me, “Have you read the latest Dan Brown?” There’s actually a mention of MISP in The Secret of Secrets. And yes, it fits surprisingly well within the story. Alex Conan (who assists Jonas Faukman in the investigation) mentions that he detected the activity using FTK, and that the indicators were later reused by the threat actor (having a hit on a MISP instance).

“But before I could build the algorithm, my FTK scan returned a hit. One of
the IoCs from th…

...

“So who hacked us?” Faukman demanded, leaning forward.

“That's why I wanted to talk to Katherine—to find out if she could think of
anyone who might be targeting her so I could build a proprietary algorithm and
search for specific digital artifacts.”

My God, this kid needs an editor: Just tell me who the hell did it?!

“But before I could build the algorithm, my FIK scan returned a hit. One of
the IoCs from this hack had a match on MISP associated with known—"

Health Stuff

Recovered somewhat from whatever that weird fit was at the end of last year.

NHS still has me on some sort of list I think, appointment might turn up next year. Last contact with them they were suggesting maybe November.
But the private treatment gave me the
MRI which
showed nothing weird and post-fit symptoms have been reducing.
Experimented with eating meat to see if that helped.
Tried eating meat for a month to see if it reduced the post-fit symptoms. Maybe it did? Tried vegetarian again and maybe it got worse?
Hard to tell with intermittent symptoms and a terrible memory.
Decided it's more likely to do good than harm (to me, entirely harm to the animals obviously), and eat meat till the end of the year.
While I'm better, I don't really feel fully recovered enough to want to change things so more meat next year I think.
One of those symptoms is that booze tolerance dropped to like zero. Very rarely had more than four pints in a day this year and very rarely more than one night a
week.
Much high number than the target there really.
Tripped over a guy-rope and fell onto the wrist.
Did two days of the festival and the drive home thinking it almost certainly wasn't broken and only confirmed it was when I got home and the hospital put it in a cast.

Trump’s request to add a documentary proof of citizenship requirement to the federal voter registration form cannot be enforced, a federal judge ruled Friday.

Did Performance

Played two Loopy gigs

Just a tiny birthday party and in a camping field with friends.
This is probably about the target number really.
It's nice to play now and then but couldn't be monthly or anything even more frequent.
Didn't feel like either went great. Health issues affecting performance plus nerves
Just one with video of any kind.
Added a couple of great songs to the playlists, need to practise more really.
At the end of a Hoopla class and the end of
a self-organised group class.
They were good fun.
But having to book a course every eight weeks means constantly churning co-players and long gaps where I don't get around to it or it was all booked up.
Tried to get a more permanent group going...
Trying to get some sort of indie-group off
the group rather than just short runs of
classes with new people all the time.
We found a group an booked the room but didn't get most of the actual people to turn up. Need to presumably meet more people up for that sort of thing.
So there will be new improv class starting
in Jan.
A new show in March at least.
