House Republicans on Thursday abruptly canceled a vote on a resolution directing Trump to withdraw U.S. forces from Iran or win approval from Congress to continue the war,
after it became clear they lacked the votes to defeat the measure.
The retreat was a striking setback that exposed fractures within the G.O.P. over the conflict at a moment when the party has begun pushing back forcefully on Trump and his agenda.
It also marked the latest embarrassing blow to Speaker Mike…

Colombians voted in a presidential runoff election on Sunday
According to preliminary results, a hard- right White House-backed conservative has a razor-thin lead.
With 99.99% of votes counted,
Abelardo de la Espriella had won 49.66%, according to data from the national registry office.
De la Espriella claimed victory and said he would govern for "all Colombians."

My takeaways:
1. Don’t even try me with your “both parties are the same” BS.
2. Don’t even try me with your “support all Democrats all the time no matter what” BS.
3. We need to make Democrats a •lot• more afraid of getting primaried.
4. Above all, we need to stop imagining the politicians are the leaders of social change. We need to fight every day, in every place we are, to create a reality where trans people are safe and politicians are scared of casting votes like this before we even target them.

Another long day at the polls yesterday. Arrived 5:50 am, left at 9:10 pm (polls open 7 to 7). 704 ballots cast at my precinct. Steady all day. I don’t think anyone waited more than 5 minutes to check in.
Unfortunately, GA is one of the very few states that requires runoffs in races where nobody got 50.0001% or more of votes in a given race, so we’ll do this all again in 4 weeks.
Still an important job and I’m happy to do my part.

I hate the (measly but vocal) pro-Russian propaganda in Bulgaria against the "eurogay", "satanic" contest (yeah, that's a real thing). I love that even though I had my doubts about the Bulgarian entry, the votes proved me wrong. Brooklyn’s Democratic Party could be in for a major shakeup following last month’s primary election, when reform-oriented candidates flipped eight of nine contested district leader races.

The groups who backed those candidates — New Kings Democrats and Brooklyn Can’t Wait — say they now have enough votes to oust party chair Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn and take over the county machine they have long railed against.

There are a lot of possible explanations for this:
Maybe the people who aren’t interested in AI also happen to vote for more sessions. (At a quick prod at the data, penalizing votes from people who voted for large numbers of sessions does not seem to change the conclusions above, but I haven’t investigated this thoroughly.)
Maybe AI is a more fragmented topic due to its newness, and interest has not coalesced, leading to a large number of small sessions. (But again, •total• votes for AI, including the whole long tail, were proportionally smaller.)

Friends, EDF Action Votes here.
We’re sounding the alarm about Donald Trump’s cuts at NASA, NOAA, and FEMA.

Our ability to track the weather,
prepare for natural disasters,
and support science is being taken from us.
We have to protect NASA, NOAA, and FEMA’s weather prediction capabilities,

passed with no Democratic support at 5am,
after a marathon session of votes to knock down proposed amendments.

Switzerland’s right-wing SVP party is urging voters to “send a clear signal” to policymakers to curb what it calls “overwhelming” population growth.
If Swiss voters back the population curb proposal, the country’s Federal Council and parliament will have to roll out measures to curb population growth until 2050.
Immigration systems would be tightened if the population exceeded 9.5 million at any point over the next 24 years,
with asylum and family reunification programs fir…
