Prof Sir John Curtice, on the English council election results based on key wards:
"A sharp fall in Labour's performance is accompanied more often by an above average Green performance than it is by a strong Reform performance."
"It should be remembered that Labour may often lose seats to Reform because it is losing votes to the Greens, while the Conservatives are losing votes to Reform. The net effect can be that Labour end up losing a seat to Reform."

For what it’s worth, we have a system in MN that’s not too far from this: if you’re not already registered to vote, you can show up on election day with one from a limited set of approved gov-issued photo IDs, •or• proof of residence such as a utility bill plus a registered neighbor who will legally vouch for you.
The result? We have some of the highest voter turnout rates in the country (often •the• highest), and just •vanishingly• small rates of fraudulent / illegal votes (because the consequences for such votes are just as severe as ever, not changed at all by the ease of same-day registration).

Soon after Trump took office, the lead prosecutor, Jorge Matos, was told by a supervisor to take the investigation no further
“Before the election, it was definitely full steam ahead,” said one person familiar with the case.
“After the election, that all changed.”

Ah yeah! Our ward’s Green candidate won. We’re in one of the safest Tory seats and they got nearly twice the votes of Con and Reform 🖕
Also Wikipedia tells me we used to be a notorious rotten borough until the early 1800s

The effort from House Democratsto pass a war powers resolution by unanimous consent was squashed today
as the pro forma speaker, Republican Chris Smith, refused to recognize Democrats.
It was always a tall order, given that pushback from even a single member would require Democrats to pursue a formal vote on the resolution.
While it’s largely a symbolic move,
top Democrats in both chambers have vowed to hold votes again when Congress returns from recess next week.

It’s what I believe since the beginning of the Iran bombardment.
Trump thought he could do like Venezuela. Quick change of power, put an ally in place, no occupying military force needed. Looks like a hero. That’s what he wants for Cuba too.
But now he’s in deep shit. Every day the war continues without a change of power, he looks like a loser. War is not popular and oil price is skyrocketing, the entire opposite of what the game plan was to get mid term votes.

Trump has privately described to aides and
Republican officials outside the White House
that his ideal outcome in Iran is one like the
emerging dynamic between the U.S. and
Venezuela since American special forces
captured Nicolás Maduro in January, the current
U.S. officials and former U.S. official said. In
post-Maduro Venezuela, the U.S. backed a new
president, Delcy Rodriguez, under the condition
that she implement policies that Trump views as
favorable to the U.S., including that the U.S.

There are a lot of possible explanations for this:
Maybe the people who aren’t interested in AI also happen to vote for more sessions. (At a quick prod at the data, penalizing votes from people who voted for large numbers of sessions does not seem to change the conclusions above, but I haven’t investigated this thoroughly.)
Maybe AI is a more fragmented topic due to its newness, and interest has not coalesced, leading to a large number of small sessions. (But again, •total• votes for AI, including the whole long tail, were proportionally smaller.)

We’re not up to the interesting part yet.
My part in Minnebar is helping to create the schedule. We don’t hand-place talks in timeslots, or create “tracks” by topic. Instead, all the attendees vote, indicating •all• the sessions they’d like to see (as many or as few as they want to check off), and we generate a schedule from the votes. The schedule attempts to minimize attendee time conflict regret. That’s it.
(That process is interesting, but it’s not what this thread is about!)

2 of the top 10
