More than 25,000 residents in three provinces have been evacuated as dozens of wildfires remain active and affect air quality in parts of Canada and the US, according to officials.
Most of the evacuated residents were from Manitoba, which declared a state of emergency last week.
About 17,000 people there were evacuated by Saturday, along with 1,300 in Alberta.
About 8,000 people in Saskatchewan had been relocated as leaders there said the number could climb.

TIL - with great surprise - that Cunningham's law - ""The best way to get the right answer on the Internet is not to ask a question; it's to post the wrong answer." - actually predates the invention of the wiki by Ward Cunningham by about a decade.
I always had assumed that the law was expressing the lived experiences running wikis, but it was referring to Usenet posts, predating the Web and wikis.

Ukraine seems to have kicked one of the legs of russia’s nuclear triad pretty hard.
“Ukraine says it has hit more than 40 ‘enemy bombers’ in a drone attack deep inside Russia - which could cost the Russian air force $2bn. Last night, two bridges also collapsed in separate Russian regions - which authorities blamed on ‘explosions’.”

Last night I dreamed that the great computer scientist, Niklaus Wirth, had died by suicide because he was convinced his intellect was failing, because a simple financial calculation was failing, because he'd caught an exception and just returned zero instead of handling it, because he'd written sketch code and meant to come back and deal with it later but had not done so.
Which is almost certainly all arrant nonsense, but what a BIZARRE thing to dream about.
