Abstract: The unexpected collapse of the Carola Bridge in Dresden, Germany, provides a rare opportunity to characterise how urban network traffic adapts to an unexpected infrastructure disruption. This study develops a data-driven analytical framework using traffic data from the Dresden traffic management system to assess the short-term impacts of the disruption. By combining statistical comparisons of pre- and post-collapse motorised traffic distributions, peak-hour shifts, and Park-and-Ride data analyses, the framework reveals how traffic dynamics and traveller choices adjust under infrastructure disruption. Results reveal that the two closest bridges, the Albert and Marien Bridges, absorb the majority of the diverted motorised traffic. In particular, the daily traffic volume on the Albert bridge increases by up to 81%, which is equivalent to 3.5 hours of traffic operating with maximum flow. Peak hours on critical links are significantly prolonged, reaching up to 250 minutes. Besides redistribution, the overall daily motorised traffic crossing the Elbe river declines by approximately 8,000 vehicles, while Park-and-Ride usage increases by up to 188%, suggesting a potential travel mode shift after the disruption. The study reveals the patterns of traffic redistribution following an unexpected disruption and provides insights for resilience planning and emergency traffic management.

Weird feeling as while looking to answer to the question "how do I get the coordinates of the minimal value of a numpy.ndarray ?", found that I already asked that question ten years ago: laurentperrinet.github.io/scib

A rare daylight #fireball coming with a loud bang was seen and heard Tuesday morning over the U.S. and Ohio in particular: youtube.com/watch?v=dHBjApk3d6w - see skyweek.wordpress.com/2026/03/ for links to many more reports. And ares.jsc.nasa.gov/meteorite-fa says: "Signatures of falling meteorites are seen in data from three weather radars [...] NASA Meteoroid Environment Office finds that this was a 2m diameter object weighing around 6 metric tons - more of a small asteroid than a large meteoroid. [...] There are meteorites on the ground around Windfall, OH towards River Styx, OH."

My #silentsunday.. I only had a chat with two guys at the summit and one guy a bit below.
Besides that... 4-5h silence. If we don't count the minutes I was following the activities of a woodpecker a couple of meters away from me 😊
It took me really efforts to get out. But - as usual - it was worth it.

A moment of joy and adventure is captured in this winter forest scene. A hiker stands on a snow-dusted trail, surrounded by tall evergreen trees and patches of snow. The hiker is dressed in outdoor gear, including a gray jacket and a blue hydration pack, ready for a day of exploration.

The background features a mix of snow-covered ground and green foliage, creating a beautiful contrast of colors and textures. The sunlight filters through the trees, casting a soft glow and highlighting the peac…

As cheesy as this sounds - even if you’re failing by all the world’s metrics of success, if you can lift someone else up today - even in the smallest way - you’ve done something of weight and - for all involved - kept the darker things at bay.
And multiplied by many, a society that values this will outlast every society that doesn’t anyway.
