So this is an interesting peek behind the scenes of what's possibly coming with the next release of Mastodon.
I run my own Mastodon server which I keep fairly close to the bleeding edge of the Glitch-Social fork of mainstream Mastodon. Following the latest update I made, I've now seen something that looks like it's going to be a Quote Toot.
Particularly interestingly, it looks like the quoted toot hasn't (yet) appeared in my feed as it seems like the author of that post needs to give permission for their toots to be quoted.
Of course all of this may not ever hit mainstream Mastodon but I'm pretty sure the dev team have said QTs are their Next Big Thing. So yeah, quotes, but only if you allow yourself to be quoted.
