Before we walked over to the bar to ring in the new year last night, I polished off MASTERS OF ATLANTIS as my last book of 2025. I'd put it on my to-read list after this review ... whew, back in 2020?

I’ve got a feeling 2026 is finally gonna be the year of the Linux desktop, so here’s my list of recommendations, ranked from 1 being my favorite recommendation to 10 still worth checking out.

An extremely simple syllogism, for which the evidence is ample and has been easily available for over a decade:
ICE : white people in Minneapolis ::
regular police : Black people everywhere in America
If you're saying "Abolish ICE" right now (as you should be) but you're hesitant to say "Abolish the police" then you're okay with the brutality as long as it's reinforcing the racial hierarchy, and that's not a good look.
I understand that "Abolish the police" is a scary thing to think about if *your* experience has been that they keep you safe, but recognize how much of that is myth vs reality, e.g. have you ever personally had a positive interaction with police, or do those all happen in stories? Also, even if they do keep you safe, is it worth it if the cost is brutality to the marginalized? (No, it's not.)
At minimum we can see the following behaviors on both sides of the syllogism:
- retaliation for legally "protected" defiance or even just observation
- random killings, with mostly-nonexistent repercussions for the officers involved
- regular widespread harassment & surveillance
-more that I don't have time to list right now. Feel free to reply with your own examples.

I never thought I’d see Waterworld on a list of «best of…» films. I mean, it’s a cheesy, fun movie — but good? Hm; maybe not. https://www.theguardian.com/film/2025/nov/27/youre-gonna-need-a-bigger-b…

When you're trying to get #Google to help them fix a problem they have in relaying an email to a list (they are forwarding as if it they are originating your non-GMail email, thus incurring an SPF failure) their helpful support team to the rescue (see image attached).
FYI... the second thing they want is a screen cap of the client SMTP config.

Compared to the same quarter from the year before,
it amounted to a 62 percent surge in sales,

Fun fact, your computer doesn't have USB ports (USB is a protocol, not a connector).
Funner fact, even if your computer has USB-C receptacles it might not be using any type of USB as protocol for a specific connection.
Funnest fact, there's at least a dozen different types of cables that use USB-C plugs with various capabilities, sometimes mutually incompatible and often silently falling back to slower protocols.
