QQ for all the "Restore the #RuleOfLaw" folks out there: When militarized police crushed Occupy for daring to challenge the logic of bailing out the bankers who crashed the economy rather than the people they fleeced, was that "Rule of Law"? When militarized police maimed and brutalized water protectors, was that "Rule of Law"? When oil companies and tech monopolies fund both parties and just happen to get legislation that keeps them in power, is that "Rule of Law"? When your tax dollars go to fund genocide, to pay to drop bombs on children, is that "Rule of Law"? When the NSA was spying on American citizens, was that "Rule of Law"? How about the drone strikes on Americans, was that "Rule of Law"? When cops murder people and then use "qualified immunity" to get away with it, is that "Rule of Law"?
Y'all keep talking about how #NoKings is about "restoring rule of law." It's got a bit of a "Make America Great Again" feel to it: you're invoking a return to a history that never actually existed.

American healthcare is on life support, -- and Republican policies now threaten to pull the plug.
Last summer, all but five GOP lawmakers worked with the Trump administration to enact the
“One Big Beautiful Bill Act,”
a law that defunds healthcare for working families,
all while funding tax breaks for billionaires.
That’s why I testified at an Oct. 8 hearing held by House Democrats in Washington, D.C., to speak out against this partisan law
—because it wil…

San Franciscans! Here's a petition you can sign asking Mayor Lurie and the board of supervisors to fund social housing. You might have seen the flyers around the city.
We voted to fund it with 2020's Prop I, but for obscure reasons of state law, the use of the revenue wasn't legally binding, only intended. And then-Mayor Breed refused to do it. But we can fund it now!

A panel on bitcoin treasury companies.
Because investment law makes it hard for institutions to buy bitcoin in their funds. You can't own BTC in you tax free ISA. So some companies that do hold bitcoin, notably microstrategy, became proxy investments. If you can't hold BTC you could maybe own a company that owns BTC instead.
Microstrategy started because it's ceo realized it's dollar treasury was being debased by dollar printing. So tried buying BTC instead, with fantastic success.
Copycat companies proliferated. They boomed and then busted. One panelist calls that a grift. A way to memeticly pump share price.
A line can be drawn between profitable companies just storing their profit in bitcoin Vs those raising debt to buy without having a profitable business.
Imagine a world transiting from using seashells for money to using gold coins. A company gathers seashells from investors to buy gold coins, which will do better than sea shells. Trouble is the next step where the company pays back it's investors with... More seashells.
If you own shares in the company, you do not own bitcoin. You'll just get more old fashioned bank money.
Still. It's worked as marketing, more people being convinced BTC has value.
If you do buy a treasury company, check it's bitcoin not "digital assets" including shitcoins.

The one thing that does seem clear to me is that this is deeply entangled with the ultra-concentration of wealth and power, something which is both a cause •and• an effect of creators not sharing properly in the rewards of their creations.
If you talk to me about antitrust law with teeth or ending regulatory capture or a wealth tax, well, I don’t know how we get there — but you have my attention.

This is a nice gesture (and a horrid photograph) but I do wonder whether either of the Dells have read the law that created those "trump accounts".
I did read the law.
It is like most R-party "accounts" - a scam (largely benefiting crypto bros.)
It is one of the most badly drafted pieces of legislation that I have seen. It is full of ambiguities that will lead to future disputes over who gets what.
It is a law so poorly crafted that it will make t…

Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly,
nominated by former President Bill Clinton,
said on Friday that the I.R.S. plan to share information with ICE was too broad.
She said that federal law only allows for the I.R.S. to share tax information with other government officials who are directly involved in an ongoing investigation.
The I.R.S. sent the thousands of addresses to a single ICE official, who Judge Kollar-Kotelly said could not have been personally conducting so many i…

Finally, Martin from BTC Prague wonders how to empower bitcoiners in the UK.
He's inspired by many UK scientists and artists and creators.
But he thinks it's declining. Socialism and regulation reducing freedom.
His home country had a peaceful velvet revolution, ending communism in the 80s.
And it now has a law that there is no capital gains tax on long term held bitcoin!
The UK, he thinks, needs to build new strong bitcoin based money to have it's own peaceful revolution.

Petition of Right, (1628)
was a petition sent by the English Parliament to King Charles I,
complaining of a series of breaches of law.
The petition sought recognition of four principles:
🔸no taxation without the consent of Parliament,
🔸no imprisonment without cause,
🔸no quartering of soldiers on subjects,
🔸and no martial law in peacetime.
After dismissing his second Parliament,
Charles imposed a "forced loan", an effective tax wh…
