Back when I worked at SDC in Santa Monica (roughly 1971 through 1980) one of our department's projects was an early AI project.
We had an entire IBM 370 mainframe running CP/67 (which became IBM's VM) running LISP based AI code.
I think that the group may have been using it for continuous speech recognition - which we knew our "national security' customer was planning to use to automate wiretaps.
(I used the speech recognition project's soundproof room …

My goal always was to run 500 km in one year. Today I made it for the first time 🥳
I built some visualisations in #rstats to keep me motivated throughout the year, of course!

Soo I went for my morning run on the treadmill and forgot I had left ngscopeclient running on my Ethernet benchmark test. I didn't realize until I walked back into the office and wondered why my GPU fan was a little louder than I expected.
It was still happily crunching away eating 8 Gbps of data nonstop.
In that time, it ingested over half a trillion ADC samples, almost 150 billion UIs. The bathtub curves go down to e-10 range without any dual dirac extrapolation or anything…

Worked on some more #Gentoo global #jobserver goodies today.
Firstly, Portage jobserver support patch: #PyTest jobs will also be counted towards total job count.
Again, it's not a perfect solution, but it works reasonably. The plugin still starts -n jobs as specified by the arguments, but it acquired job tokens prior to executing every test, therefore delaying actual testing until tokens are available. It doesn't seem to cause noticeable overhead either.

Irked because my watch showed 7.5 km (not that I was looking at it desperately or anything…) 😉
An afternoon meeting prevented my running in daylight on the greenway, so I headed over to one of the high schools to use their track. (My favorite track at the middle school is still all torn apart for some sort of culvert work. 😤)
One end is all pine trees and the fragrant smell each lap was lovely.
4/1 minute run/walk intervals for 7.46 km in 57:43, average pace of 7:44/km.

An outdoor run summary displaying 613 active calories burned and a distance of 7.46 kilometers.

Dang, it's cold (-18 C overnight low for all you metric peeps). No #running outside lately. I intend to run on an indoor track during the week this week.

Legislation requiring cars and trucks

easily cleared a House committee Wednesday, although it could run into opposition going forward.
H.R. 979 -- the “AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act,”
would require the Department of Transportation to enforce the mandate through a rulemaking.
It passed the Energy and Commerce Committee by a 50-1 vote.
