Still not feeling great, but figured today would be a great day to finally test out the entirety of the custom FF6 cart I built so long ago. Broke out the Sony PVM-2530, got everything hooked up, and now it's time to beat all of the things down.
The SNES is modded with Voultar's SNESRGB mod, and the video/audio goes out via a SCART connector into the SCART switch (`gscart`), then into the CMPTR adapter, _then_ into the Sony PVM.

Finished prepping the NESessity NES mainboard for the new front loader mechanism. I got lazy when I installed all the components on the NESessity board and maybe didn't clean the flux off as well as I should have. However, since I've gotten open the NES up, figured I'd do a proper 99% isopropyl alcohol bath and a good scrub. The board is looking great, now to wait for the cartridge slot to come in and get it buttoned up again.

Hey... it's snowing again... what a surprise.
Our first winter in Barrie has been eventful as we've now gone 12 days with 2cm or more snow accumulation per day, and had a streak broken yesterday of 10 straight days of heavy snow / snow squall warnings.
According to local media the 2025 November/December snowfall amount is the highest in 25 years. Based on my substantial lack of meteorological knowledge I am predicting less snow than normal for the rest of the winter. The lakes are cooling quickly and icing over due to the colder than normal temperatures. That should reduce the lake effect snow squalls coming off of Georgian Bay. (Delivered in my Cliff Clavin voice).

I've got initial `av1an` support into the Sisyphus encoding system. Updated the Dockerfile for `av1an`, added `svt-av1-psyex` with HDR10 and Dolby Vision support, and even installed the `lsmash` Vapoursynth plugin for fast scene detection/chunking. I still need to get `ffmpeg` compiled with support for `svt-av1-psyex`, but I'll deal with that in the future once I get encodes running and working.

The oldest winter festival opened its ice gates to the public yesterday and runs to February 15th. The Quebec Winter Carnival was first held in 1894 but became an annual event starting in 1955. It's not the largest in the world but it's in the top 2, and record crowds are expected since most Canadians aren't interested in being interrogated at our southern border.
#Bonhomme is the generic term for a figure ( bonhomme de sucre , "sugar baby"; bonhomme de neige , "snowman"). The beloved character who represents the Quebec Winter Carnival lives a pampered life. He has the keys to the city, from the mayor in 1955, and has a new ice castle built for him every year. He also retires someplace cozy after the event and returns refreshed and ready for next year, unlike European festival snowmen who are burned at the close of activities to bring forth spring. Bonhomme has a better manager obviously.

Just a few years after we were married my wife and I rented the upper half of a duplex near High Park. The East-West road we lived on was considerably higher than the one south of us and we could see Lake Ontario through gaps in the houses across the street. I learned this week that a few years ago I could have had beachfront access out my front door.
Glacial Lake Iroquois was a prehistoric proglacial lake that existed at the end of the last ice age approximately 13,000 years ago. It was essentially an enlargement of the present Lake Ontario that formed because the St. Lawrence River downstream from the lake was blocked by the ice sheet near the present Thousand Islands. The level of the lake was approximately 30 m above the present level of Lake Ontario. Being born 13,000 years too late probably saved me from paying a lakefront premium on my rent.

Warum als Beamter in die GKV?
- Die Rechnungen nicht mehr selbst überweisen 2 mal erstatten lassen
- Nicht mehr jedesmal rechnen ob der Kickback nicht günstiger wäre.
- In SAN teilweise bessere Behandlung durch Praxispersonal, was "Private" grundsätzlich skeptisch sieht.
- Solidaritätsprinzip unterstützen statt Investmentkonzerne.
- Die unendlich geldgierigen Zahnärzte können endlich die Rechnungen nicht mehr mit 2,3 multiplizieren.
- Wenn man alt und krank ist wird's teuer in der PKV!

Interessante Entwicklung für #Beamte in Sachsen-Anhalt:
Das Fünfte Gesetz zur Änderung dienstrechtlicher Vorschriften wurde am 23. Januar 2026 veröffentlicht. ☝️
Warum ist das interessant? Nun ja, man kann als Beamter ja in die gesetzliche Krankenversicherung gehen und zahlt dann einfach alles selbst, d.h. es wird meistens viel teurer als die "Frankenstein-Lösung" Beihilfe Restversicherung.
Ab 1.1.26 übernimmt das Land nun 50% der GKV Beiträge.
Zu Kindern steht hier aber noch nix...

Jetzt muss man jedes Gerät in Apple home nochmal „freigeben“, bekommt einen code den man am besten in die Handy App von Home Assistant copy-pasted und schon sind alle 5 Geräte auch im „zweiten Zuhause“.
Der Lecksensor hat einfach unten 2 Metallkontakte und wenn er im Wasser steht werden sie verbunden und er piept. Funktioniert.
Der CO2-Sensor ist klasse und auch als Schreibtischuhr geeignet. CO2 Level in meinem Büro ist auch bei längerem Mathe machen nicht erhöht. 🧐

Es ist Wahnsinn wie viele tolle Ideen mittlerweile da eingeflossen sind.
Die korrekte Spannung der Riemen überprüft man mittlerweile mit einer App die beim Anschnippsen die Frequenz abhört.
Es sind verhältnismäßig viele Teile des Bausatzes offensichtlich gedruckt. Natürlich noch nicht die Motoren, Heizelemente und Rahmen, aber so Kabelführungen alle.
