Insight-HXMT Spectral and Timing Studies of a Giant Outburst in RX J0440.9+4431
The Be/X-ray binary pulsar RX J0440.9+4431 underwent a giant outburst in late 2022 and lasted three months. The Insight-HXMT has observed this source at several instances of the entire outburst in 2022-2023. We used these bright outburst observations of the pulsar to study its X-ray spectral and timing variability. The battery was replaced under recall at around 40,000km in 2022 a couple months before we went on an epic 12,000km Pacific-Atlantic-Pacifc cross Canada adventure.
Fast forward to today. The car is at 226,000km and I am headed 225km down to Victoria to bring my wife home from the Airport.
Car is ready. 100% charge. 468km on the rangeOmeter. That is city driving so I don’t expect to get that range at highway speeds. I’ll top it up in Sydney before heading home. This was always our main criteria. Can we drive to Victoria comfortably.
Yep. No problem. Even 200,000km later!
