I have a problem with the House of Commons floor crossers, as I think most people do.
But I havent been able to come up with a more palatable alternative or at least a different scenario.
The biggest problem, for me, is the act of poaching. The trickle of MPs.
It gives the impression, falsely or not, that these people needed just a little more time, a little more convincing, a little more... ? to eventually turn on their constituent's choice of party.
What would be more pallatable? How about a group? Rather than a trickle.
People tallk, it is naïve to think it isn't known between individuals who may be thinking of leaving or switching parties.
So if there is more than one with that thought I think it would be better for our democracy if those MPs banded together and made their concerns known privately in their caucus first, then if nothing changes, they communicate to others including the public, and make it clear this is something that could happen en masse.
Then at least it takes away the transactional nature of it and frames it more as a democratic choice, informed by whatever situation is happening and done for the benefit of constituents and Canadians.
How does this change get made? Unfortunately that's the hard part. It would be hard or maybe inappropriate to "legislate".
It would need to be an expectation, a habit, a "norm".
It could happen. Though today, politicians following "norms" seems to be a little out of vogue.

From Nature
Sea level much higher than assumed in most coastal hazard assessments
Katharina Seeger & Philip S. J. Minderhoud
The impacts of sea-level rise and other hazards on the coasts of the world are determined by coastal sea-level height and land elevation1. Correct integration of both aspects is fundamental for reliable sea-level rise and coastal hazard impact assessments2,3, but is often not carefully considered or properly performed.

What the company had to say - #Starlink satellite incident: "On Sunday, March 29, Starlink satellite 34343 experienced an anomaly on-orbit, resulting in loss of communications with the satellite at ~560 km above Earth.
Latest analysis shows the event poses no new risk to the @Space_Station, its crew, or to the upcoming launch of NASA’s Artemis II mission. We will continue to monitor the satellite along with any trackable debris and coordinate with @NASA and the @USSpaceForce.
The event also posed no new risk to this morning’s Transporter-16 mission, which was designed to avoid Starlink with payload deploys well above or well below the constellation. The SpaceX and Starlink teams are actively working to determine root cause and will rapidly implement any necessary corrective actions."

ERA 100 (FF)

English Alt Text: A black-and-white photo shows a metallic electric kettle partially hidden among a dense tangle of leafless branches and twigs. The kettle sits outdoors, possibly on a wooden surface, and reflects light off its smooth surface. In the background, a concrete or stone structure adds to the impression of abandonment or neglect. The contrast between the modern appliance and the natural overgrowth suggests themes of decay, forgotten objects, or nature reclaiming space.

A wire runs diagonally across the image from the top right corner. The scene feels rustic and natural, suggesting a rural or semi-…

A cluster of electrical wires connects to the building on the right, and several power lines run diagonally across the sky. A utility pole is visible on the right edge. The architectural style and infrastructure suggest an older urban setting, possibly in East Asia, with a mix of tradition and …

Good primer on how California housing development laws have changed in the past few years, for better or worse, but also how those changes are unlikely to usher in broad affordability.
"*This* project is all but certainly going to get financing because *this* project is exceptional. But not every project is exceptional... If merely approving a project resulted in its construction, San Francisco would have scores of thousands of additional built units. It doesn’t."

Justice was not done here.
"Federal prosecutors accused Mr. Jaynes and Mr. Meany of falsifying records to make it appear as if Ms. Taylor had a connection to criminal activity, charges that might have resulted in a lengthy prison sentence. Neither was present at the shooting. No drugs were found in the no-knock raid on Ms. Taylor’s home."
