I tried to open a Word document in LibreOffice. I've now spent 5 minutes waiting for it to update itself. The updater regularly flashes new windows on the screen, fake progress bars, occasionally opens a web page. All interrupting me the whole time.
I just want to see a single page of text.
Update I finally got it to work by manually killing the updater process. Had to be fast: it'd only last a few seconds before dying and relaunching itself.

Okay, the setup is solid now. SCART into the `gscart` switch which splits the output. One goes to the Sony PVM-2530, the other output goes to the RetroTINK 4K. I tried to get the colors to match somewhat on the CRT, but it's a fool's errand to be honest. However, once work is over it'll be time to progress more in FF6.

My daughter had her second complete game pitched yesterday, and a win. Our practice work is showing up on the field for sure now. Her weakness now is still too many balls thrown. The pitches that are in the strike zone come in fast and are hard to hit, or if hit they go nowhere. But yeah, getting there. We just keep on working on keeping her form the same. Super proud of her progress!

#poolpond progress today as we approach spring. Need to clear out the backyard enough so I can get a local guy with a mini bulldozer to soread out and flatten out the dirt mountain.
I came to a realization over the winter that leaving the lining as is in the pool with just a bottom of gravel and nothing on the sides is definitely not an option.
Turns out if the hole is emptied in the rainy season, then water will drain into the gap between the lining and earth... bulging the lining out into the cavity. Nope. Not good. keeping water in it keeps things in place, but realstically winter and spring will be when I want to do cleaning and stuff.
So that means I must do my best rock wall building up the sides this spring once the surrounding ground dries. This was my original plan, but I had hoped to do it without grouting or cement. That was a mistake on my part that I learned in earnest in August.
So now, all the various rock sizes piled around the yard is not going anywhere.... BUT at least with the leftovers from the fence i have material to build some forms to help with the wall building....
So that's why my attention for preparing for spring will turn to reactivating the surrounding yard.
So I need to find a place closer to the house to move what rock is left. Ugh. heavy work. And I realized today that someone has taken our garden cart 😢 boo.
oh well, onward we go! There is light at the end of the project!

Lots of progress and a lots of pain. However, all of the Sisyphus modules have been implemented and I'm currently running a test across the `2.0.0b2` version. The most painful thing I fought was literally tailing a log file. Got lazy and brought in `hpcloud/tail` because it did what I needed it to, but what it _didn't_ do was work well for my application. After a day or two of battling it, I removed it and went with `bufio.NewReader`and a nice `context.CloseWith` setup and now it…

Went to see Stuart Goldsmith doing his work in progress stand up show about the climate at the local theater.
He's a funny man and has a good friendly personality (or stage-persona at least I guess) and is terrified and anxious and angry about the way the people are treating the world without out even being their fault.
It's a good show, he's a good guy, you should go see him do it at Edinburgh or whenever he's in your town.
No action you can take as an individual really makes much difference to the end of the world stuff. You should be vegan perhaps, ethical banking perhaps. But really the only thing that works is mass social pressure, so talking about it is the best thing you can do. If you can't be vegan, at least say you are.
Perhaps telling everyone on linked-in to book him for their climate sessions is best he reckons 😆 but I don't do corporate social media at all really, so Mastodon and cross post to Bluesky is the best thing I can do perhaps.
Stu's a friend of a friend, we've met before. Don't think he recognized me sitting in the front row without context against the stage lights though. Maybe a little at the end with some context when he's rushing to get home.
Still love that Captain Pike hairdo.
