Coming to Knowledge:ORIGINALS on Thursday April 16 at 9PM and available for streaming on that date.
E.J.Hughes only wanted to be left alone to paint. He made hundreds of paintings in his 70 year career and lived long enough to hear on the telephone that one of his paintings fetched over $1m in his lifetime. Not many humans have that experience!
I was lucky enough to be invited to a preview at Emily Carr Uni - and I am very glad we went. Hughes was one of a kind!

A painting of Taylor Bay BC, in 1952 with a fishing boat in the foreground and a steamship in the background. There are a couple of waterside cabins and trees take up much of the top of the picture with a distant mountain on the left. The painter is E. J. Hughes and the picture is currently on display at the Audain Gallery in Whistler.
