This week's theme is songs that made you realize why others liked an artist. As a young adult, I was perplexed by Björk. I dated a few women in the 90s who loved her and I was slow and uninterested in listening to much beyond my usual selection of punk and ska. And then I heard this song and my opinion shifted radically and has never gone back.

"The reason for the carnage? The plant life was overgrown and limiting visibility for drivers, DPW says."
Looking at the photo of median, it's pretty clear that DPW assumes people are driving Go-Karts, not cars. Just one example of why the proposed Street Tree legislation allowing "the Director" to make non-appealable decisions re street trees is based on false assumptions of infallibility.

It’s strange thinking about how much pain I’ve grown to accept and have just learned to live with.
I love writing by hand too much to give it up - with my ADHD it helps me focus, remember thins better, think through complex ideas. Journaling has been a great way to manage my mental illnesses. I love paper, I love collecting notebooks.
Not to mention that I am a hobbyist artist and draw on a regular basis. (Somehow that has been less painful for me than writing… but if writing cramped my hand then drawing would be agonizing too and I’d have to take weeks off on a nearly constant basis).
So suddenly purchasing a new kind of pen and realizing it MADE THE PAIN DISAPPEAR feels like magic. I literally feel less disabled.
I just wish I bought a fountain pen years ago 😅

My neighbor wiped out on his bike breaking a leg and has been off work for a month but he’s been doing illustrations to make some money so I got one of my cat in a box.

Zooey Deschanel, explaining how Prince ended up on "New Girl". I know she's telling the story very accurately, because she says that Prince's manager's email started with "I'm manager to legendary artist Prince...", which is exactly how her messages did start. youtu.be/_pMdUxAztjw

Artist #BoramieSao will be visiting campus on January 24. We're putting up her painting that's part of our collection AND borrowing its companion piece as part of the exhibition "We, Too, Are Made of Wonders." The two paintings are mirror images, one dark, one light. Read on to learn a little more about the artist and her work.

Boramie Ann Sao's painting "A Dark Night of the Soul, Pt. 1 (Lightness)." Made in oil on linen, it's vertically oriented and abstract, with a cream-colored background and various neutral-colored biomorphic shapes that call to mind leaves and other parts of plants nestled together around a white circle in the middle.

Why does not music streaming platform offer a "block this artist, I never want them recommended or streamed" feature? Is that just not asked for enough?
(Was told that Spotify has that [didn't consider using them given who and what they finance] and that Deezer has a "dislike" button that I didn't see when I looked at them)

I've been messing with wget and HTTrack for archiving web sites... An artist friend of mine passed away last year and I have this fear his web site might disappear some day, and I want a copy of it.
The images are not hosted on his domain though, they are on a SquareSpace domain, but I think I've got HTTrack working to grab them all.
Still need to figure out the exact formula, so it'll take a bit of testing.
