Periodic reminder for people interested in #HomeAssistant
There is a @… bot that replaces the old gup.pe home assistant bot.
Mention it in your homeassisitant posts and it will boost them. Follow it to see all the #homeasistant posts it boosts that may not normally get federated to your instance.
There’s also @… - follow that and it will automatically boost everything you post with #homeassistant without you having to remember to mention the bot.
For those who don’t know, these bots exist because when you look for a a hashtag, your server only checks the posts that have been federated to it.
In order for a message to be federated to your server, the author (or one of the people boosting it) have to be followed by someone on your server. If no one touching the message is being followed, it’ll never get federated to your server and you won’t see it.
Hashtags are great for finding messages, but only messages that were federated to your server. They don’t help message propagation, but these bots will.

Unlike conventional semi-analytic models, our approach naturally captures the stochasticity of star formation, allowing us to isolate how cloud properties, star formation efficiencies (SFEs), and stellar initial mass functions (IMFs) shape the star-formation burstiness of early galaxies. Clouds are drawn sequentially from a cloud mass distribution, assigned an SFE and IMF depending on cloud mass, metallicity, and redshift, and evolve under the influence of short-timescale stellar feedback. We identify three distinct star formation regimes arising from the interplay between cloud masses, densities, and feedback timescales: a stochastic, feedback-limited regime in low-mass halos with long quiescent phases; a bursty regime regulated by the cloud mass distribution; and a smooth, continuous regime in massive halos. Our fiducial model adopts a dynamic IMF, an SFE linked to cloud properties and the IMF, and massive, moderately dense clouds. Varying assumptions reveals that top-heavy IMFs and enhanced SFEs in massive clouds amplify burstiness, while altering the upper cloud mass or density normalisation is secondary. Among model ingredients, the IMF most strongly impacts the UV luminosity function (LF), while switching to a constant SFE boosts the faint end, and reducing the maximum cloud mass decreases the bright end. These results demonstrate that cloud-scale physics critically shape early galaxy UV luminosity distributions.

As long as Mastodon does UI stuff like this it won't be going broad appeal or mainstream.
(This specific message happens when you "bump" a post, i.e. remove existing boost and then immediately boost again, and you do it "too fast").
1. It should be called "reboost" in the message because the feature is called "boosting".
2. No one cares about the HTTP status code, it's just confusing to people who aren't devleopers.
3. The message shouldn't happen at all, i.e. the boost button must remain grayed out or unavailable while the post is considered boosted already (for example there could be a little indeterminate progress spinner to acknowledge you unboosted but while its not really unboosted).
4. The message should probably be shown where the error happens, if you have a big monitor you might miss it because it's n the screen corner.
5. The message should probably not just go away by itself before you had a chance to read it.
6. If you absolutely have to have errors like this (could be because user is on a stale page that shows the post as not boosted when it actually is), make the message more helpful (for example suggest to reload the page to see the latest).
7. Reboosting existing boosts is a relatively common usage pattern—possibly make it a feature and give the user extra information (like idk a warning about "You already reboosted this twice in the last week, are you sure you want to pester your followers again?")
