RE: cosocial.ca/@mhoye/11668669957
I agree with this in very large part, although I want to be careful not to read it as dropping the responsibility on individual developers.
It’s perfectly fair to say, “I made something that might help people, so I’m sharing it, but I don’t have the capacity to support everyone who depends on it.” It’s also fair to say, “This thing would really help me, but I don’t have the capacity/ability to take on responsibility for its maintenance just so I can use it.”
No •individual• is in the wrong there. It’s a sign of broken systems and broken society that in such situations we so often cannot muster the collective capacity to support that kind of commons — the kind that exceeds the capacity of any individual maintainer — for the good of all of us.

On Instagram on Android the bottom action bar is broken most of the time and only killing the app fixes it for a short time.

Love how thoroughly Victor Patrascan eviscerates the MAGA tourist at his show in Antwerp.

(Sorry for the YouTube link but yewtu.be’s AI scraper captcha has broken the site for me, at least on iOS.)

lol a conversation I just had w/ a friend
[here's that MR: salsa.debian.org/ddp-team/rele ]

T: "I turned off apt instaling recommends and also let it autoremove T: recommends I didn't ask for"
T: "kinda painful, but I want to explicitly know"
T: "anyway then upgraded server to [debian 13] and all sorts of stuff broken"
T: "#1 have to install systemd-cryptdisks"
Me: "I got hit with the systemd-cryptdisks thing"
Me: "as a matter of fact, i filed a bug!"

T: "libvirt is also all sorts of broken, still figuring that out"

Me: [link to a merge request in debian]

T: "it is in the release notes at least" [link to debian's release notes]

Me: "yeah, i'm why it's in the release notes 🙂"

T: "oh because of you!"
T: "nice"
T: "thanks"

Me: "np"

Your company is a MACHINE for turning MEETINGS into REPORTS. Too bad no one reads those reports.
You also have dashboards, which one might skim before doing what they were gonna do anyway.
Tech orgs have all the data in the world, but have lost the ability to read it, understand it, or act on it.

Just finished reading through a paper I'm peer-reviewing for [redacted publication].
I'm about 90% sure it was mostly or entirely LLM slop. Filled with inconsistencies, broken [?] citations, bizarre punctuation, and things that made no sense.
What a waste of time.

Silly idea: Monocrystalline rock candy.
I'm thinking you start with a normal polycrystalline rock candy block, break off one of the larger crystals as a seed, maybe polish or something to reduce defects on the broken surface, then lower into a supersaturated sucrose solution.
Then let it grow for a while and hopefully extract a relatively clear, defect-free <100> sucrose crystal.
