My copy of #DigitalAccessibilityEthics showed up! I spent my fika ego-surfing my own chapter.
Look at all those real, verified, not hallucinated citations! That’s more than you’ll see in some think-pieces or government reports or research studies!
You deserve well-sourced content. Treat yourself.

A softcover copy of ‘Digital Accessibility Ethics’ on a black metal mesh outdoor table alongside a small bowl of pretzels, an espresso cup, and a pint glass of iced club soda, all on my fika tray; the book is 7 by 10 by ¾ inches.
The book open to page 247 showing a full two-page spread of links to supporting materials, covering footnotes 7 through 31; the espresso cup is empty, the fizzy coffee soda nearly empty, and the pretzels are one shy of being empty.

I have a notational problem to solve. In my linear algebra script polynomials are usually capital letter named, like P,Q ∈ K[t].
Endomorphisms have capital letters from the F,G,H range.
Then in the theory of normal forms we need projection operators, which are endomorphisms, so they ought to be and are currently called P.
But then in that chapter the (characteristic, minimal, ...) polynomials move to small letters which is disturbing.
What should I do?
#math #teaching
Make polynomials small p,q ∈ K[t] throughout
Find a new name for projectors like π.

I bought the paperback and inevitably still working through it, but it is incredibly impressive - it unifies Marx, Keynes Ricardo, Smith in Shaikh's own framework of Real Competition. Capitalism is a system of turbulent equilibrium, where profits reign (and underpin things like aggregate demand). Nice dismissal of neochartalism too, on the way.

This is a #DetectiveDotson #PointAndClickGame appreciation post:
I find the combination of slightly grainy photos and pixel art fascinating. It’s particularly compelling when it’s vistas & river/road perspectives.
Initially, it did feel a little like a fever dream - while the controls are sensible, some are unusual & the cultural context is also unfamiliar to me.
I really enjoyed the constant bargaining & trading. There are options to ignore bargaining & ways to find substitutes for most expensive items. Bargaining makes a really cool minigame. I've not beaten the cricket or dancing mini games yet! They do feel very appropriate, tho. I *loved* the hidden object games & the variety of minigame options for making money.
I also valued the way the stories are interlinked and the way the investigation/clue board works. I hope there is a chapter 2!

Quantum ergodicity and semiclassical measures: mathematical results
St\'ephane Nonnenmacher
arxiv.org/abs/2606.12098 arxiv.org/pdf/2606.12098 arxiv.org/html/2606.12098
arXiv:2606.12098v1 Announce Type: new
Abstract: In this chapter we review some results describing the high-frequency eigenmodes of the Laplacian on compact manifolds, or Euclidean domains, for which the geodesic flow is chaotic. We focus on the macroscopic distribution of these eigenmodes, which is described by the concept of semiclassical measure. The main result on the question is the Quantum Ergodicity theorem, originally due to Schnirelman. We provide the detailed proof of this theorem, including the adjustments necessary to treat the case of manifolds with boundary. We also discuss the Quantum Unique Ergodicity conjecture, and some progress towards this conjecture for strongly chaotic (Anosov) systems. In particular, we describe the constraints on admissible semiclassical measures, in terms of their Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy, as well as more recent delocalization results.

Content warning: "Pushing Ice" by Alastair Reynolds

Read "Pushing Ice" by Alastair Reynolds which is a sci-fi novel about the crew of an ice-mining ship which usually pushes comets around to harvest their snow.
In fact there's almost no actual pushing of ice in the novel though because the crew are immediately distracted by the strange behaviour of one of Saturn's moons, Janus, which turns out to have been an alien artefact all along.
Being closest, they chase it out of the solar system and onto the relativistic time-dilated future of the galaxy.
Alastair Reynolds writes long. Seems to go on forever. Been reading it for months. And yet when you reach the end you still want to know what happened to 'em all next.
Interesting hook of how by timing your relativistic journey's speed properly you can take civilisations from all around the history of the galaxy and put them all in one structure at the end. Gives a nice way to have aliens interacting with each other even which each evolved in a pretty much otherwise empty galaxy.
The politics and factionalism of both the humans aboard Janus and inside and between the other alien species is explored well. Betrayals and manipulations and hiding of truths going on and being justified by everyone.
Felt like the prologue was all a bit spoilery really. Might have been a more surprising story without letting us know in chapter zero what kind of thing to expect, making the path of the captain predestined.
Good stuff though. Nice long space opera.
