A late Day of Hermes and #BumDayMonday post 🐏
"I see him there at the oars of his little boat in the lake, the ferryman of the dead, Charon, with his hand upon the oar and he calls me now."
Euripides, Alcestis 252
🏛 #Hermes takes the soul of a dead woman to Charon, Att…

Vase painting on a white background. Hermes in a bright red chlamys cloak guides the soul of a dead woman towards the bark of Charon. Hermes is bearded and carries his kerykeion staff and wears a broad-rimmed petasos, a traveller's hat, on his head. Charon is dressed in a black, knee-length exomis that leaves his right breast bare. He also wears a hat. The deceased woman wears a long black himation around her body and as a veil.

I grew up in a large city in a western democracy, with a socialist city government and it was fine.
There was basically no crime. People didn’t go hungry. Housing was affordable. Rent was regulated. Public transport was amazing. Education was free. Everyone had healthcare. Taxes were practically the same as in the US.
It was also much, much easier to start a business there than in the US. (Literally took an hour!)
People who wanted to get rich still could do it (there’s a few Austrian billionaires even).
I don’t understand how Americans got themselves so brainwashed that “socialism” is used as a term that sort of means “iworse than death”.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Donald Trump’s hateful, falsehood-filled rant on Thursday
blaming immigrants for crime, “social dysfunction” and economic hardship
is refuted by a wide range of immigration statistics,
which show clearly that immigrants dramatically bolster the US economy
and commit crimes at far lower rates than people born in the US.

Content warning: software rant

I don't know what the fuck is happening to software. Start Chrome on a new phone and it crashes, log in to a new Gmail account and it shows a “500 error" banner for 2 seconds. Open Google calendar, switch to the weekly view and the events are displayed as GIGA NARROW UNREADABLE BOXES.
YouTube on iOS? For months had a problem where sometimes the UI has the wrong colors, probably because of the dark mode thing.
